Well, there's another embargo blown. HUMMERForums dropped all the images they had of the HUMMER HX concept that was due to be officially unveiled in a scant five days, and Jalopnik followed suit. So here it is, HUMMER's Wrangler-competitor in concept form, complete with a 3.6-liter SIDI E85 FlexFuel engine which sends power to all four wheels via a six-speed auto 'box. The HX is technically a convertible, meaning that the roof panels and modular rear can open or be stowed, while the interior instruments can be reconfigured depending on the type of driving you'll be doing. All the details are available in the press release after the jump.

To me it just looks like the mid section with doors and mirrors is what has been copied off the FJ..
Thats just me.
Not bad, but I don't think its really worthy of holding the Hummer name, But heck, I never thought the H2 & H3 where worthy either...

There is quite a bit of the FJ in there, if tha thing wasnt built by hummer, id say it would be a beast. lol.

wow, from some angles it really is very similar to the FJ. I like the looks of this much better than the fj though ( :flipoff: putting on flame suit), but like Chris said, too bad it's built like a hummer. :hillbill:

not bad, for a HUMMER.
however, here's what caught my attention:
"The HX is technically a convertible, meaning that the roof panels and modular rear can open or be stowed..."
now if only Toyota would do that...

I dunno, the front is 100% Hummer. The rest? Not really sure but but I don't get the FJ. It is too long/low in profile. The angularity resembles the FJ but that's the style now. The Jeep concepts are very angular too. Well, Jeeps have pretty much always been that way so in a sense they are being copied.
I like that design. We need more removable top 4X4's. Look at the rear section, it's too bad some ugly mud flaps will have to be integrated otherwise it's awesome that they removed so much easily damage body work. Clearly approach and departure angles are excellent.
I hope they build it and don't change it too much.

you know, besides some of the over the top styling and that wacky badge that mistakenly fell from one of the greatest vehicles ever made on to that pile of trash they call the H2, i kinda like it.... do i see a CTIS on this model? wheels kinda look like it. i always thought that was one of the coolest things ever.

I don't agree that it is a take off of the current FJC. I am okay with the FJC and have wheeled with them quite a bit here in socal and they do just fine IMO.
I wonder how many people who like the H1's have ever driven one or had to work on one. Cuz I can tell you that the military mechs who do, have no love lost for them.
I kinda like the concept of the pic shown. Interesting to see if they build it or not. I don't think so.

I have wheeled with H1's. They have their strong points and some very weak ones. For example, pick a steep hill of loose dirt/sand. The H1 can't get up it to save it's life. The old Bronco's and the 'yota scamper up with ease. The H1 just digs right in even aired way down. It's diesel will spin the wheels, just not fast enough. I suppose if it had like 44's in might make it but not on stock tires like the other trucks could. In other areas though it does really well. It's shear size is also another issue as it just plain won't fit down some trails.
The H1 we must remember is not designed to be a crawler, notice how flexless it is. You are way too easy to shoot at going that slow. It's designed to have a lot of clearance between the wheels so service men and women can haul rear and straddle objects instead of having to slow go around them. It has a lot of suspension travel to soak up hard landings from those higher speed activities. Also, they are designed to protect occupants from mine blasts and carry very heavy payloads. Those qualities are not on the spec sheet of your average well built 4x4.
But, good bad or otherwise, the H1 is continuing to inspire off road vehicles which I personally think is a good thing. GM takes H2's on the 'con all the time and they make it through. Not a lot of vehicles can do that. GM has a rock crawling course it uses to test it's 4x4's.

I probably should have been more specific in my comments. Realiablilty is a big issue with H1's. I agree that it has been a driving force for the development of off road vehicles and modifications. They do have some strong points and have served the design purpose pretty well although they are now being phased out.
I have been on runs with H2's and H3's and was impressed with them both. I know there is the "an H2 is just a Yukon with a different body" thing out there but I have yet to see a Yukon on a trail although I see a decent amount of H2's. The H3 is not too bad either. Now it is available with a V8, Locker and factory 33" tires. The shear size of the H1/H2 hold them back but this is not a problem for the H3.

What's going on with that hood?
Looks better than an FJ, but I bet it's hard to wheel with gun slit windows.. Baja Claws stock? Saweet.

I like it. I think it looks similar to the FJ but I like the looks and features of this over the FJ.
