Well guys, i am somewhat ashamed to admit it, but I need to file a restraining order against a very obnoxious old Argentinian couple who have harassed my wife and I for 3 years now. Its getting to the point where these people are becoming more violent. Yes, violent. i can cite a few examples but ill spare you the drama. but these f'g people are nuts and their daughter and son-in-law (who bears a humorous resemblance to Gilligan) live nearby and are not afraid to give me the :flipoff: whenever they see me. i swear, alot of the times, these people try to bait me to provoke me...doesnt work all the time, but i've had my 'moments' :hillbill:

So the cops advised me to get a RO, so off I will go on Friday. It's really amazing that i'd ever file a restraining order against anyone.

Ok, to the surveillance camera question: even if i get a temporary RO, these people are f'g nuts enough to violate it and probably do so in a violent way. i would not put it past these hot headed beotches to vandalize my car (which I already think they have shanked my car tire). So does anyone have an all weather surveillance camera? ive done a little research online and i've seen some ones that have software that you can view online and even ones that have a motion detector feature too. both those appeal to me.

anyways, please chime in. and yes, we are definitly in our time frame for moving...once the real estate market levels off, we are going to seriously think of moving.

Bob.

I can get anything you need.

Cost is going to be determined by how crazy you want to get with it.

We just put in 3 cameras and a Dig DVR 17"Lcd monitor and what not into a contractors buddies house just a tad over cost and it ran 3k installed.
Want to say the cameras, and DVR ran around 1400 my cost.

I have cheaper options, stuff like you would get @ Costco. Pic would be ok and with some thoughtful install and layout will probably do ya till you move.

The motion sensor thing is built in to most DVR's. You tell the DVr to watch a certain area or Areas in the pic provided by the camera in question. After motion is detected in theses areas it can do what ever is programmed: start recording, trigger relay, ect.

Your main concern is going to be Lighting. Even cameras with the IR features are usually only good to about 25ft. And shadowy areas will kill your pic. Make sure you throw up some motion triggered lights to keep the area nice and lit.

I can get Arm Electronics: http://www.armelectronics.com/

Speco : http://www.specotech.com/

And a few other cheaper ones from a dist in AZ.

I'm sorry to hear of the aggravation, Bob. I don't know anything about recording devices, but I think you are on the right track. Usually when a conflict materializes, the party with the most effective game plan wins. Looks like you're putting the ducks in a row...

I wonder if you could also employ some flame throwers....

my feeling on cameras is to HIDE them. most people put them out in the open as a deterrent. i think with these people, you dont want to deter them so much as nail their asses to the wall when they do do something bad.

Frys actually has a pretty decent selection of home surveillance stuff.

thats really all i have to add. sucks that people are like this, care to share why they are? nothing that my friend Mr. .45acp wont fix!

Yes most DVR's employ relay closures, trig the relay closes a circuit, makes flame go wooshhhhhh.

oh and on top of Reggies post. make sure the cameras are hidden, or you may have them vandalize those, (depending on if your tape records them doing it or not.)

just curious, why the hell are they bothering you in the first place?

dangit Sean beat me to it

He wouldn't share any of his churros. :D

J/K Bob, I'm sorry to hear that you are going through something like this. You could always place an anonymous tip and get them sent to GITMO. :hillbill:

I have some Vandal proof ones that will take a Sledge hammer to the dome.

Hidden is good, but remember you are going to have to factor the view in to, if you tuck em into much you are going to be cutting down you view.

You can toss up some dummy ones to keep em guessing as to whats what.

The two things you do when laying out a system is first determine the type. Are you looking for Detail or Overall coverage.

Overall coverage= less detail
Detail=less coverage since you have to zoom up on something narrowing the field of view.

oh trust me, worse thoughts have come to mind.

reggie: oh im definitely going to go on the low budget for this. theyre really not worth it, but just in case they get nutso when the RO is in effect, i want to capture it. ill draw a pic and send it to your email tonight if possible, or latest tomorrow

first, they are retired. second, they are very angry, bitter people. esp the wife. she is definitely the one who wears the pants in the house. basically, if you disagree with them, or hang out w/ other neighbors they hate, well, youre their enemy. in a nutsehll thats how it happened. ive given a taste of their own medicine a few times, but that only made it worse, as these people MUST have the last say. but for those of you who know me, i did rile them up in my own unique way :)

anyways, reg, look for something from me soon.

yeah, i am definitely wanting to make this a hidden deal. and thanks for the tip on frys

You are on the right track.

My folks have a RO on one of our neighbors, and it has worked well for the last 10 years.

He was also dumb enough to leave a message on our VM, which we took to the police.

When we filed it, the cops went over there, and essentially said, "If you so much as look at these folks the wrong way, you will be taking a trip with us to the jail, no questions asked. We strongly advise you to mind your business, and keep to yourself."

As I said, we've never heard a peep from him.

axle,

what was your situation? i am not 100% sure we'll get the RO, but i have enough neighbor statements as well as the backing of the assoc president saying that these people are in the business of harassment and have a looong history of it. i wish that old lady would've smacked me 3 yrs ago b/c i wouldve sued her 3rd world country ass and taken their dog too. oh wait, their dog died :( sucks, that dog was the only cool living thing in their home. my neighbor says that since there hasnt been any reported violence that i should not be expecting much in terms of getting the perm RO. well, at the very least, it would be great to haul their asses in court and get a scare from the judge

Our situation was a constantly drunk neighbor harassing us kids when we would play down by the road (VERY rural area, dirt road, creek next to the road, its a cool place when you're 10).

One day he was flying up the road, and we had dumped dirt or something in a pile (talking like 3-5 inches here, and he was driving a dodge dually). He hit it, which was like no where near the bumps that the rest of the pot holes were, but he was drunk, and flew home. Called my house, my mom let it go to the VM, and in the VM, he threatened my mom and us kids, calling her a bitch, and that the next time he saw us kids, he'd take care of us. My dad flew home on the next flight from West Virgina where he was on business, hopping mad, and ready to shoot the guy. But, by this time, we had the RO, and the cops had already done their thing.

All you need are those statements. If others come in and say yeah, these folks are harassing us, the courts should give you the RO.

oh yeah, thats right, i remember your situation. the lady is definitely a snake: she can be a really charming old 3rd world lady. im sure she's gonna turn that on. but people in our quad know the real deal. anyways, i hope it goes our way. these people are easy to ignore, but when they cross too far, its hard not to react

go to china-mart and get a $80 hunting game camera. it will have an infared flash that is not visible by humans. you can easily hide it and it's triggered by movement and the trigger is adjustable. it's not video, but it would be enough for a conviction to place them in the area, in violation of a restraining order, at the same time that something was vandalized. you can get a digital version for about $100 more and you won't have to deal with film and developing either.

Just to add to the hilarity...when my wife and I visited Bob over christmas break, this lady stared and stared as us while we drove by. At the time, we didn't know who it was.

Bob, search around on Pirate as there's a guy named glenn who talks about surveillance cameras a lot. I think this is one of those times the credit card commercial has it right.

Surveillance system...$1000
Seeing your neighbor get hauled off to jail in handcuffs...priceless
