lol... yeah, i'm in the process of searching for my next 3rd gen - number 4 for me. :shake:

i'm looking for something specific - actually one of two things.

it either has to be

1999 or 2000
Limited 4WD
Black
RR DIFF LOCK
no more than $10k
no more than 120k miles

or

2001 or 2002
Limited 4WD
Thundercloud Gray (thundercloud trim too - no silver trim)
(i'll just have to add the RR DIFF LOCK later) :D
up to $14k
no more than 120k miles

i'm looking for something in the south central or south eastern areas: florida, alabama, georgia, south/north carolina, tennessee, arkansas, mississippi, louisiana, or texas.

if any of you come across one, post up the info and a pic if you have one and i'll check it out.

first was a white 2WD, so it was a no-brainer to sell it.

second was a black 4WD limited, but no sunroof. i got it for a sweet price, so i flipped it for a quick sale (and $3k profits) and kept the 2WD until i found the third one - the red one.

third was the red one that i built into a rock-crawling rig, and then moved 500 miles from the nearest mountains. i'm now living back on the coast again, and i really don't need a double-locked 4runner on 35's with about 400-lbs of steel armor since there isn't a rock within a hundred miles from here. i needed the cash for a relocation more than i needed a rock crawler on the beach, so i sold it.

now that i've moved, i not only know what i want, but now i'm in the position to buy again.

the perfect one? a 00 thundercloud limited with monochrome trim and a rear locker. since that one doesn't exist, then my second color choice for a 99/00 would be black, and my other option would be to get the thundercloud limited and add a rear locker using a locked 4.10 third from a tacoma, and that's the way i'm really leaning.

i'm checking autotrader, ebay, and yahoo autos as well as the occasional scan of craigslist, automart, and cars.com. i was really looking to see if any of you may run across one online that's not advertised on one of the above sites or maybe on a lot somewhere...

i just found two thundercloud limited's at the same dealer in NC about 80 miles from Charlotte, which just happens to be where i'm flying to on business in a few weeks... maybe they'll have one or both of them left and i can take a look.

I never new the limiteds and sport editions shared the same rim style...
and I personally don't like the chrome grill...
But to each there own.
Stepdads sport is color matched all around so I guess I am use to that...

also, the chrome grill is the one thing on a stocker that i would change out almost immediately. not a fan at all. i don't know if i would just paint the chrome one or buy a sport grill and just sell that one off. either way, just say not to chrome. :D

lol... for the right price, i wouldn't pass up one if all the cladding was chrome. trust me, that chrome tag surround won't stop me if it's a good deal. :D a little painting doesn't scare me! just look at my last 4Runner as well as waskillywabbit's old black 00 SR5.

I spied an 01-02 Thundercloud at a used car lot on the way home last night. It had the limited flares, but may have been a sport (will check it out better in the daylight today). Are there specific things in a limited that you want or everything the limited offers?

the 01/02 Limiteds should have a sunroof as standard, but that would be a requirement for sure. i'm pretty sure that there weren't many options on them (maybe heated seats and chrome package at most). they all have leather, power seats, climate control, etc.

if you could check that one out and see if it's a 4WD limited and a price/miles, that would be great! thanks!

well, i called that dealer yesterday and it was pending on a sale to another dealer in OK. i just got a call and the check came in today as promised along with a shipping truck showing up to get it, so that one's gone. i'll just be patient and keep my eyes out and i'll come across the right one at the right time - hopefully in the next few weeks. in the mean-time, i'll just stock up on the parts, etc that i'll eventually need anyway and hoarde them away. :D

that one does look nice, but $11k for 150k miles is definitely on the high side of prices. that one should be priced at about $9k or so at most.

here's one (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=237656425) less than 400-miles from me in FL, black w/ locker, $7900, but 141k on it.

i've also found a 2001 TC Limited with 119k for $9k, but it's got a dent in the bumper and on the rear gate, missing a rear mud flap, and generally dirty plus it's great lakes vehicle. not one that i'd want to take on, even though it's only about 60% of the retail value.

i really want to stay in the south and under 110k at most for mileage. if i get a 99, then it has to be under 100k anyway. 00 or newer, and it can go a little over. credit union rules, but i have to get a loan at first on this one since i want to buy before i sell my current car. however, if i found one cheap enough with higher milage and it seemed like a good deal, i might just pay cash and then just replenish savings after the acura sells.

that one in FL sure is clean... they have more pics on their website, and it really does look nice. the only flaw that i see is a torn driver-side seat bolster.

i can take a look at the one in CO if you want. 4runners tend to be higher here in CO though it seems.

no rust issues in these cars, they dont salt the roads in CO, mag chloride instead or sand.

thanks, i appreciate the offer. however, that one that i linked above just may be the one. it's a 99 w/ locker, the only cosmetic flaw is a torn bolster on the driver seat, and they are having that panel of leather replaced. the exterior is nearly flawless, and same goes for the interior. the dealership that has it picked it up from the mercedes dealership last friday. it was a trade-in on a new S-class. they're going to fax a carfax report and any service history that they can track down plus the former owner's name and number to me on monday. he's pretty firm on price, but one that's been taken care of and in that condition for less than $8k would be a bargain in my book. the good thing about it is that it will be about $3k more than the car i'm selling, so i probably won't worry about financing and keep my no-payment status, which is another huge plus. :D

yeah id have a look at the frame rails in the back, even look at the gas tank just in case. looks very good.

imo 17" sequoia/tundra wheels only look good with 33s. i think the 5 stars look the best or the 01-02 ltd/sport wheels on the 4runner. sequoia wheels are next on the list. but hey... if you sell the 5 stars, i need another set for my 35s to put on.

i like them, but we already have a UZJ100 and i will be using whatever i have to commute about 50-miles a day round trip. the UZJ would get 14-15MPG or so where a 4Runner will get about 18-ish or better in stock form. the wife has a 2-mile commute, so she drives the 100. we like to have it for long trips (we have two boys) so we have plenty of room.

Although I have seen the price of 4runner dropping quite quickly lately due to the ever increasing price of gas and the fact that dealers are going to the states (usually at auctions) to get vehicles more than ever. I'm finding more newer (03+) 4runners in MPH than I do in KPH. The process to bring them back is so easy once you've done it and it's not as unorganized as it used to be when few people were going south to buy and the customs people might have seen only a few imports a month.

well, they just faxed over the original window sticker for this one. definitely has the locker. they have other records, etc, so it looks like this is a go for sure.

they're faxing me the buyer's order and it should be tied up with a deposit shortly. looks like i'll fly down to tampa on the 5th (fat tuesday) to drive it back. :D

this is going WAY back in time, but here's a 99 limited by Candido Tapia (ctapia on the old boards) that he had quite a while back. he had everything painted, and then eventually added an ARB sahara bar, which is where i found the info about them before i ordered mine.

anyway, this is what the "new" 99 will look like shortly (minus one set of TuRD stickers and a chrome front-end damage multiplier) :)

candido i think lives in CA. he sold the runner a few years ago and now has a LX470. he's still posting on MUD from time to time.

That black one is nice. Black, gray, and green are amongst my most preferred 4Runner colors. Looks really sharp, especially with the flares. :D
