I maybe in the market for a new 4runner. (V8 Limited probably) When I bought my Jeep Wrangler I made the mistake of not getting the better axles and a few other things. When I buy the 4runner I would like to be better informed, and not make the same mistakes. So my question is what options do guys recomend or not. I would like to use it as a Daily driver and Family camping \ medium offroad use. I will probably lift it at some point down the road, and dont want to be limited on what I can modify on it.

Thanks
Matt

if you want alot of lift options, stay away from the xreas system.

other 120 guys will definitely chime in here.

depending on how far you want to explore, the stock 4runner (4th gen, v6 or v8) will be very capable of getting into some interesting terrain with ease. the updated ecu (ATRAC) system is pretty impressive that you'd be surprised how far you can explore in a vehicle with no factory front or rear lockers.

since the vehicle will be used primarily as a dd and used for occasional exploring/camping, I would recommend you look into an OME lift which would give you a similar ride as your stock (non-xreas) suspension. If you plan to lift it stay away from the xreas setup as the closed loop shock setup will limit your options on lift types.

check out the wiki for more details:

These wiki's should get you started on some option. If you need some more recommendations by all means just post it up and we'll help ya out.

one last note, I highly recommend you remove your factory running boards and upgrade to some rock sliders to protect your stock panels. This is one mod I always recommend to everyone that will encounter rocks/trees/obstacles.

Welcome aboard!

If I do end up getting a 4runner with Xreas suspension. Can it be easily removed if I decide on going with something other than a spacer lift?

There's not a whole lot you can get from the dealer to enhance off road ability. Everything is aftermarket so just get what ever creature comforts you want.

I'd go with rock sliders and a mild lift, like what Lance said.
