I searched and found nothing. The first problem in 150,000 miles by '96 4runner has ever had.

What I was doing before it started:
My car has been sitting for 2 days 10-20 degrees F. Last week my g/f drove on the interstate with the o/d off for well over 100 miles. I jump in tonight and fire it up. All seems normal. I get back in after it is warm and still, all is normal. As I start to accelerate I hear a noise from the back rightside. I can't explain the noise. I chalk it up to something rolling around in the back b/c all things were still normal. 30 minutes later while driving it started riding like on a real real real lightly washboarded road. The road's surface appeared to be like the car was riding. Well... as the road smoothed it was still doing it. I was only going about 20mph b/c the roads are a bit windy and up hill. I turn the radio off and realize its running and riding real real rough (more or less shaking the car). I did a few quick revs after about 10 minutes of this and there was a lack of power, and after one of the revs things went normal for about 20 seconds and then back to the running rough. It seems to idle lower than normal and shakes. No CEL. I shut it off, turn it back on and samething.

Its about 11:30, 10 degrees outside tonight, and I live in an apartment, so I'm going to start looking tomorrow. I hope this isn't something major b/c I just dropped $400 in books for school, and am like most college kids that pay 4 rent, insurance, cell phone, and etc....broke. I will take it to get a scan from autozone if they are open tomorrow. Until then, what do the auto yodas on ultimateyota think? Can you help me diagnose the never before ailing 4runner.

Thanks a bunch

Do you have a lot of snow right now? Is it possible a big chunk of ice came off your front end some where and caused the sound you heard? Maybe it hit an O2 sensor or something.

I'm fighting a rough idle right now too, but mine stemmed from changing my spark plugs and wires :(

with it being so cold out, leaking vac line some where?

I cant see the non-OD trip causing this, bad gas mileage during that trip yes.

I'd check all the vac hoses first then move on to spark plug wires, ect.

You would think a bad sensor would throw a code if it is to the point of making it run that bad.

The plugs and wires are over due, so I am going to check that out tom. I'll also check the vac lines to. Thanks guys. Keep my checklist coming.

Well, I started it up today, drove around for about an hour and the 4runner is running like a top. I will change my plugs after work next week(a bit over due), but I don't think they were the problem. I will let you all know if the 4runner starts running rough again.
Thanks for the suggestions.
