Well like many of you my intake ducting was falling apart. After Superstition 10 it was pretty much hanging together by a thread. I figured now is a good time to replace it. I went to Home Depot and did some shopping. What I put together is not "perfect". In fact, I might just get a new tube, heat it, and custom bend it just for fun but this is working very well.

I was looking for something plastic because metal conducts heat very well and that heat is exactly what I want to keep out. Also, plastic doesn't conduct sound like metal.

As soon as I drove off I noticed what others have echoed, better throttle response and in my case better acceleration. I notice the improvement in partial throttle driving range we where spend most of our time. And it's not falling apart! It could be more aesthetically pleasing but for $28 and some change, it's good to go.

The parts all from Home Depot:
(1) 2.5" gray PVC electric conduit tube with a 45 degree bend. One end was flared, or had a "bell" which I cut off.
(2) 3" to 2" rubber reducers located in the plumbing section next to the black sewage stuff
(2) 2" to 2" joining collars in the electric conduit section
(2) .5" barbs, any thread will do, in the... I forget section

Here are two shots of the rubber reducers. They don't fit too well so you have to push kind of hard to get them on but they work.

These are pictures of the pipe cut down and the two collars. The collars resize the pipe so it will inside the reducers. I could not find a reducer or other rubber part that would accommodate the pipe. The second pic as the fittings. I used a tapered reamer to enlarge the holes enough to thread the fittings into.

Here are the fittings installed with JB Weld.

Here are the insides of the pipe where I took down the fittings with a die grinder. I mean you gotta have smooth flow right?

Here is the setup installed. I used JB Weld when I tapped the stuff together so it won't leak or come a part.

you will have to tell us how it works after a while with the heat produced frotm the engine, it looks nice an clean and I wouldn't mind doing something like that myself instead of paying for $$$ for a tube from trueflow....

Excellent job man! It's nice to see some more ISR jobs being done for the 3.0

I had something similar when I had my old truck, definitely makes it sound better at least!

Yeah the sound is better. It's not intrusively loud but it's better. The truck runs better with this on there. When I hit the cruise control accel it picks up much better.

I agree though I'll have to see how the rubber parts hold up to the temps. On the upside, they are only 5 bucks a piece.

I did this at a friends house and he wants to do it to his truck. He found some better rubber connections on Ebay and is going to order them. We are going to try to custom bend the PVC and see how that turns out. I'm not sure when we'll do this but hopefully soon.

I should add, I might have been better off with the 90 degree pipe. I had to cut enough off that the rubber is accommodating the lack of bend radius.

Looks good. Please keep us posted on the progress and how well it works.

Well it's holding up great but there is a drawback in that it make it rather inconvenient to check the oil and tranny fluid. My friend and I were messing with bending some straight pipe with a heat gun and if that works out I'll make a pipe that fits better. Or, just start with a 90 degree which will be about a 45 degree when I cut it to fit.

I dont know if you guys can do the same thing as the Taco's with the 3.4 but take a look at how I did mine on my '04.

Looks great Frank.
You might look into radiator hose to withstand the heat better. It's made of rubber too.

I was looking at some of that turbo/cold air intake rubber connectors at the autoparts store. If I bend a pipe better I could use that and it should withstand the heat.
