I'm trying to get some info on OME coils... I'd like to have 1.5" to 2" lift from where my truck sits now... I have all pro coils in the rear (not sure what size) and torsion bars maxed out in the front... I measured from the top edge of the rim straight up to the body's edge and it is about 13.25"... I'd like to have somewhere around 15".... I was going to get the 1.5" bj spacers for the front, OME coils for the rear and OME shocks for front and rear, but I heard that the OME's get 1.5" to 2" lift from stock, and I'm not completely sure that's going to be any different from what the truck is now. Any info on this subject will be greatly appreciated.... :)http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg148/gklove04/IMG_2508.jpg

I use it on the road mostly but I like to be able to go out every once and a while.... not like rock crawling or anything but just medium to hard trails... I'd eventually like to have some 33's or 35's... http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg148/gklove04/IMG_2612.jpg

I don't think I'd mind the stiffer ride... are you talking about 2" ball joint spacers? I hadn't heard of anything other than 1.5 or 1", so I figured 1.5" would be better... where can you get 2"? You said you are measuring from the ground, but what are you measuring to? I was measuring from the top of my 15" rim to the middle of the bottom edge of the fender or wheel well... one of my goals is to back off the torsion bars, to get a little better ride in the front... I would love those coils but don't have the money yet, maybe when I do, I'll get in touch... thanks for all the info

thanks for all the info, i'll go out and measure tomorrow when it's not so cold and dark :) thanks for the welcome and your truck looks great

okay, so I measured from the ground to the bottom of the frame right next to the coil and it is 28"....

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg148/gklove04/IMG_3103.jpg

I also measured (centered to the wheel) from the ground to the fender arch and that was 36"...
If I measured correctly, then my height (28") is the same as yours with the 901's and therefore I need a different coil with 2" more lift...
Does that sound correct? :headscratch:

welcome to uy! also, an FYI, when comparing measurements between vehicles, you need to take the tires out of the equation as different brands/air pressures will cause the measurements to be off. they should be taken from the center of the hub to the wheel arch. doing it this way, even takes the rims out of the equation, that way you could even compare to someone who switched to 16" rims.

Hey slosurfer, thanks for that info, just wanted to tell you my wife is from slo... I love it up there... :)

Nice! Do you get out here often? I love it here too. :D

Also, I think I have my measurements here somewhere from before and after cruiser coils/bj spacers. I think they are from the top of the rim to the fender, but if you have 15" rims also then that measurement should work.

I took another measurement as in accordance with what slosurfer said, from the center of the hub to the fender arch and the measurement is 21"... and for anyone else that hasn't read the other posts, I'd like to get around 2" more.... which coils would be best? I was going to go with the ome heavy duty coils, but it seems they might be too short for what I wanted...

we usually come a couple times a year, I'd like to come more or even live out there again someday, but it just cost too much money.... we lived in san diego for 4 years... and to buy a house we had to move here...

four runner, I just looked at your previous replies and realized that I didn't understand what you were saying about the measuring... sorry about that...
now that I understand....
if I get the 901's and 1.5" bj spacers, I should have a 1" lift from where the rear sits and 1.5" lift from where the front sits...
does the stance look best with the front a 1/2" higher, or would it look better with the same amount of lift in front and rear?
if it looks best with the same height then I would be able to back down my torsion bars a 1/2"...
Also, can you fit 35's under a 4runner with that much lift?

gabe

are those 33's on the lifted 4runner?

I've seen a few people using 97 land cruiser coils... are the lc coils taller and do they sag with weight added? I imagine they'd be cheaper...

I have the LC coils, I don't really load much in the back but I think they sag somewhat easily with weight, but that might have just been partly because I had really crappy shocks at the time. They give a lot more lift than the OMEs do, 3.5" vs 1.5".

traben27, it's pretty funny that you posted, cause I was just looking at your pics and thinking "I like that lift"...
anyways, do they make like a heavy duty lc coil?
and what is your measurement from center of hub to fender arch?
thanks for posting :)

Thanks, I like it too haha. I don't have hub to fender measurements, but the lip of wheel (15s) to fender arch is 15" up front and 15.75" in the back if I remember correctly (I'm positive on the front atleast)

I'm not sure if they make heavy duty coils from the factory, but I wonder if there are any aftermarket ones that don't give any lift for a LC but are still heavy duty style. It's something to look into.

SloSurfer, what's your lift measure out to?

Sorry for the delay, I couldn't find my :poke: Haynes manual that had my before and after measurements written down. These measurements are from the top of a 15" rim to the fender.

Front Before:
13.25" ( :headscratch: I must have wrote this down wrong, it must have been 14.25")

Front after BJ spacers:
15.75"

Rear Before:
11" (Can you say "Holy Butt Sagg"!)

Rear After Cruiser Coils:
15.5" and 15.75" (one coil is longer)

I have the Rancho adjustables in the rear which helps out a bunch since there are times I use my 4runner for work and load it down or when we go camping and haul my trailer. Honestly with this setup there was less sag with the same load compared to our new tacoma.

I just measured right now and I have a pretty good load in the back (3 bags of 75# Deck Mud, some tools, 20# co2 tank, recovery gear, and spare parts) approximately 350#'s and my measurement in the rear is 14.25" which actually makes the 4runner look level (remember the rear fender is much smaller than the front).

Hope this helps, also there are before and after pics in the garage if you click the link in my sig.

thanks for all the measurements :D
I think that the lc coils sound like more of what I'm looking for... I'm only worried that they may be a little too high for the rear or that they may be too soft... but they don't cost as much, so if they are then I didn't waste that much money...

Does anyone know which ome shock fits with the lc coils?

by the way, I took off my rear bumper, a couple of days ago, I like it better...

I think I'd eventually like one of these

I don't think there are really any OME's that fit that well. The ones that fit the best for maximum travel are the rancho 5009s or 9009s (? slosurfer chime in please haha). They're made for f150s so they take some work to get them on there, but they're worth it. I really should've gone with the 9009s as they're adjustable and the 5000s are pretty stiff, but they're much better than the crappy ones I had on there. If you want OME I'm sure you can find some that'll fit, but you can atleast get them for the front.

how much are the 9009's?
Do anyone know the size of shock that I would need with the lc coils?
if I know the measurement, then I'm sure I will be able to find an ome shock that will fit.

And if for some reason you need to go REALLY long.
Superlift Superide -- 85310 Extended Length (in): 29.78
Collapsed Length (in): 17.66
Upper Mount: Stud
Lower Mount: Eyelet $33.95

Thanks for all the specs!

So, I guess my question now is, what stops me from putting on the ome n74e or the ome n74L?

Here's the specs

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg148/gklove04/Picture1.png

is the compressed length to long to fit?

with one of those I would be able to have all ome shocks, lc coils, and the ball joint spacers... which sounds good to me :)

wait I just realized that the 9009s are actually longer compressed and shorter extended than the n74L's...

so the advantage to the 9009's, is just that they adjust shock stiffness?

tell me if I'm missing something...

traben27
02-01-2008, 09:57 PM
Hmm...I don't know it seems like the N74L's would work, but I wonder if you'd have to be an eyelet/stud adapter for the top.

Yes the 9009s are adjustable. I guess they have a dial that goes from 1-9 or something, ask slosurfer, he has them haha.

will a stiff shock work well with original lc coils?
I just want to make sure that it wouldn't be really jerky or anything...

No it's not too bad at all, I really like how it rides actually, it's a lot more like a truck. I did realize today that my rim lip to fender measurement up front was a little over 16 inches...I swear it was a lot lower than that, so I backed them down to about 15.5 and i could tell the ride was better driving home.
