I bought my 1990 4runner stock in December 2006... it's coming along nicely, but slowly....

Here's what it looks like now

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg148/gklove04/IMG_5975.HEIC (https://app.photobucket.com/u/gklove04/a/71b6a222-f1eb-45ee-a434-25856f5f1324/p/64acd54a-1bee-4b0d-b06c-a7eeb4d96bdb)

And the rest of the pics are pretty much a log of the jobs I've done and trips I've made along the way...

Okay, so the engine is dying now, it's started knocking and I've had a huge loss in power...
But look what it can still do...

I put a new engine in and put LC coils in the rear with OME N74L's...

I still have to raise the front with spacers...

I put in the ball joint spacers

It seems the rear may be a little high still, I'm not completely sure yet...

And I had to design a new rack mounting system for the basket, so it didn't hit the door going in the garage... (cost about $50 and attaches to factory rack)

I went out to White Rock Mountain (for those of you who know where that is) this weekend with a friend. Camped out and then the next morning went out 4wheeling up the mountain to White Rock. It ended up raining, sleeting and snowing all night. And then it snowed all day while I was driving up the mountain.
Here's some pics...

I moved to Houston at the beginning of May, so I've had a little bit of a change of scenery.
Even though the waves aren't that great, I love being out in the ocean again. :)

Well, it's been a while but here's an update... Moved out to San Luis Obispo, CA. Been here for about a year and a half. Since the last time I posted I've done a few things to my 4runner. So here's a list...

Flat Blacked the hood
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg148/gklove04/my%204runner/IMG_0431.jpg

Built a sub box that mounts to the ceiling with 2 shallow mount 12" subs and a 900W RMS amp. I haven't finished it yet, but it is installed, functioning and sounds great! Also, lined the entire truck with dynamat type stuff that quiets the ride a lot.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg148/gklove04/my%204runner/IMG_0743.jpg

I also got some factory rack rails and extended my rack system to the front.

Flat Blacked the roof

Extended the rack basket to the full length of the roof

Got a couple Christmas presents and finally got them on the truck. First one is a snorkel and second is a rear bumper. The snorkel is a hilux snorkel. The bumper is 1.75 DOM and has a Built-In Class 2 Rated Rear Hitch. I was debating between this one and the Marlin Crawler bumper. But marlin crawler doesn't have the Class 2 rating. This bumper is from 4x Innovations. Once I got it, I had it powder coated at a local shop. So here's some pics.

Gabe I love the look of your truck. I have the same basket but not full length. Unfortunately being from Canada the salt used on the roads in winter really takes a toll on the body. If you find a 4Runner without the rear end rusted out your super lucky. I have a question for you. What are the dimensions of your wheels? I always thought to get that deep dish look you needed to use a 12.5" wide tire which I do not want to do. Currently running 31x10.5x15s but want to upgrade to a set of 285 75 16s and a rim style just like yours. Cheers

CalgarySteve,

Thanks for the compliment. My wheels are 15" x 8.5". I think they have a backspacing of 3.75". My tires are 32" x 11.5" X 15". Hope that helps.

Looks good, Gabe. These pictures make me miss my 2nd gen. I always liked the '90 and '91 front end the best.

In April of 2015, I hydrolocked the engine. I got it running again, but never quite the same. I decided to overhaul the engine. Before I carried that plan out, I decided I would do a Chevy 4.3 swap. I used my tax return in 2016 and bought all the necessary kits for the conversion. I should mention, the 4.3 swap requires more clearance and so I decided I would do a SAS kit in the front. I also decided that if was going to do a SAS in the front then I should just go ahead and put the Chevy leaf spring swap in the rear. After I bought the parts I found a donor 95 blazer and pulled the engine. I also pulled my old 3.0 and then cut all the old suspension components. At this point, the truck sat for about two years until this summer. I started working again and it is now completed. So here’s some picks of the finished product.

It?s been a couple years, and I may be the only person using ultimateyota at this point, but I like to post these updates to keep a record of the progress made on the truck. I had front and rear arb lockers installed by a local shop. Also, installed a custom steel front bumper and badlands 12,000 lb winch with synthetic rope. Also, set up a separate starting battery with automatic isolator. And had the motor mounts altered so I could remove the 2? body lift. And installed an aftermarket rear sway bar.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg148/gklove04/IMG_5975.HEIC (https://app.photobucket.com/u/gklove04/a/71b6a222-f1eb-45ee-a434-25856f5f1324/p/64acd54a-1bee-4b0d-b06c-a7eeb4d96bdb)

Then I got in a wreck. Didn?t look like much for me, but I drove over the hood of the other guys car. Ended up with a popped tire and a bent front axle housing.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg148/gklove04/IMG_6639.PNG (https://app.photobucket.com/u/gklove04/a/71b6a222-f1eb-45ee-a434-25856f5f1324/p/a50b0727-a11f-458a-b355-ec2287221e82)

So, my insurance ended up paying for a new trail gear rock assault housing. Although, at first, they tried to total the truck and give me $4,000 instead. But, It all ended up working out in the end.

Once again, she's saved from the crusher.

The bumper and lower height make it look much more tail ready. Do you notice a difference in the ride with the body lift removed?
