I've always wanted to get a RTT (roof top tent) on top of my 4runner but now that I've come across this custom LC100 with a one of a kind pop up roof I want it! Now only if I had all of the $$ in the world to do something like this.

It would literally look similar to the setup shown but holy moly this really makes me drool.

enjoy!

luv shack, baby, luv shack!

i'm not so sure about how the tent is built, but i dont think the interior is rocket science. having stripped my 4runner's interior of all material, all you'd really need to do is build a platform/floor and then build in what you see in the picture. theres a cabinet, a cabinet/bed, and a nice large hole in the roof for a pop up tent. i dont see a sink nor an electric 12v ice chest.

i file this mod under the "whose gonna try this first?" mod :) still, its impressive

Looks very clean, but it is structurally sound?
By taking out all the metal in the roof, and not replacing it with reinforments, in the case of a roll-over... or even when trailing...
Or am I missing something?

Real nice work!

Wonder how it would hold up in high winds?

Where I go in Baja, we sometimes get a week worth of consistent 30 mph+ winds... having something made out of fabric sucks sometimes ;)

Here's one from this weekend's camping trip:

I offered to trade him straight up for my 4runner and trailer, he didn't go for it. :shake: He is from Switzerland and is touring the US. His next stop was Los Angeles where his son lives and his wife was flying in to meet him and apparently his son and wife are expecting to deliver thier baby within a week or so. He really liked the 4runner as apparently they are rare in Switzerland, not rare enough since he wouldn't trade me, LOL. Sorry I didn't get any pics of it with the top up, oh and it's a diesel.

Along the same lines as the LC100 and it's one of a kind pop up roof...

A Honda Element with a similar concept. You keep the stock vehicle and add the pop up on top which only adds 5" on top (not bad). It still keeps the stock roof so the inside structure is not tampered. Not a bad idea actually.

Definitely makes me wonder if something like this can be done to my 4runner :) ahh I wish I had the $ and the skills for the insanity!

Chris I must say that LC you guys met up with is pretty slick too. Not sure if I'd want to try to get that or the LC100 from the first post hehe.

awe hell, lance, its only sheet metal! :) make it rusty, and i might be able to do it for you :hillbill:

so aside from hinged, hydraulic sheetmetal (or fiberglass) roof, some wood cabinets, a wood floor, and some frilly interior fabric, what's so complicated about this? i mean, it probably wont' be that easy, but i dont think its rocket science. the only thing i'd worry about is structural stuff.

...hmmm...voodoo's 4runner is sitting in your yard :D

hehe, Lance, did I tell you that the 70 series LC I ran into was a diesel? :tapedshut: Still a toss up between that and the 100, though. :D

Bob, that benz would be badass with a poptop and that r2d2 boat compass. ;)

hehe, my wing man doesn't know how to drive yet, otherwise it would havr been tempting. :P

It also has at least one locker, because he was telling me that he had to engage the locker to climb out of the creek crossing. Too bad he wouldn't trade, I'd so give up the 4runner for it.
