I was talking to a buddy who told me that his friend's girlfriend's dad has a rolled runner he wants to get rid of. i'll get more details about it, year, mileage, etc. today. but from the pic it looks to be 97-98 if i had to guess. I might be able to talk him into 1500 for the whole truck. i'd then be able to part out as much as i can / recycle the rest and make back some money.

however, the truck is an auto, and i;d like to keep my 5sp. from what i've read its best to get a 5sp donor truck, whats different between the auto and the 5sp? i wouldnt think there would be a huge difference since it should be the same motor???

so the truck is CLEAN..... its a 97 with 156 on the clock. red/gray cloth. the truck was rolled about 3 weeks ago, lived under a tarp for 2 days them moved into the barn. so the interior is great. it looks like 3 of the doors are sellable, the hood is perfect. frame *looks* straight and all the front end looks good (resellable).

the only down side is the auto issue. i'm on the hunt to find a 5sp ecu and wiring harness. if they will take 1500 for the truck i think it still will be worth it.

I've heard that a lot of Automatic engines doesn't have the center bearing that's needed for manual trans.

I had heard something similar - that the crank is not machined for a pilot bearing.

I dont' know what yr. The older the 3.4 is, the more likely that it will have it.
Toyota decided that it didn't need it for auto trans. so they left it out.

Probably stopped doing int in 00 or 01.
They phased out the manual trans all together for the 01&02.
Though there have been recorded rare cases of a Manual 01.
Just a thought.

I talked to ORS again, they said they have only seen that issue once in all the swap they have done, and have heard of it very few times on customer rigs that they sell the kits to. at this point i'm planning on heading to portland and picking this rig up on Sunday. I've call and reserved a 12x30 shop to work on it in. 205 a month but a tax write off :)

i'm thinking about it, but i think i want to keep the 5 speed. are the newer autos as bad as the older ones that everyone hates?
