I was looking for a decent treadmill to run on at night since winter up here looks like it's gonna be around for 9-10 months this year! :screwy: Anyway I did alot of research on treadmills and found treadmill doctor to be a great site ( www.treadmilldoctor.com ) for finding out all the brand names, features, etc on each treadmill. I was originally looking at the Sears Nordic Tracks (ie less than $1,000), but with my size I got that little bit of stupidity out of my head quickly and moved onto more durable machines.

I was going to buy a Bodyguard T280P treadmill because I had read they are very good quality and someone had put one up for sale locally at a fairly reduced price (went for $3k new and they were asking $1750) but I was too slow and missed out on that deal.

Well as it turns out that may have been a fortunate event because when I went and tried it in the store, the running deck was so short, I couldn't break out in full stride comfortably and considering the price for a new one, I wasn't going to be doing any compromising. Next I tried the Diamondback 700Tm and found it to be alot better buy for the money.

I had heard everyone praising the Bodyguard T240 and they seemed to have some legendary properties according to these people. The thing that really convinced me was when I asked the guy at the fitness store to open up a Bodyguard T240 ($2100) and a Diamondback 700Tm ($1800) so I could see what the differences were "under the hood". I think you'll be surprised at what I saw in there.....yes, they both were using many of the EXACT same parts. Then I asked the guy what was the big difference between them and one fo the big things he kept coming back with was the warranty. So I asked him who would care about the warranty if both machines were using the same or similar parts?! He had no answer for this and so I made my choice.....I bought the Diamondback 700Tm and had them deliver it yesterday. The machine is very solid and thus far I am very pleased with my purchase.

Anyway, I thought this might be helpful if anyone else was in the market and looking for a well priced solid treadmill as well.

Chris, being from GA I'm not sure you know what cold really is?!

j/k

It just snowed another 20+ inches today and soon to be followed by freezing rain so you couldn't even find a clear sidewalk to run on if you wanted to. Maybe in a few days you'd be ok to run in crampons. Home gym is definately the way to go up here, but unfortunately it ain't cheap either (esp in Canada).

take up cross country skiing lol you have some great hills stuff near montreal (I go skiing up there occasionally - but mostly closer to quebec city - mont st anne)

I have personally looked into treadmills however I would rather have an eliptical machine - this way you can get a full body cardio workout rather than just legs. It lets you get your arms involved as well and is less of an impact on your joints than treadmills

 Oh boy, no comment!

We might get an eliptical later but a good treadmill is pretty much the bread and butter of a decent home gym IMHO. I also like spinner bikes but after a 1/2 hour workout on one of those, you'd be lucky to walk the next day. Rowing ergometers are probably THE best cardio workout you can get but they really take some serious dedication to train on those.

I know what cold is and I prefer to run indoors during the winter months. The wife and I have a Landice L7 treadmill at home. It is expensive but we decided, as we get older, not to skimp on the training aids. I'm starting to build up the Crossfit garage gym to complement it.

Very nice machine! If we are still using ours heavily in 10 years or so I'll probably invest in a Landice L7 Executive Trainer myself, but just starting our home gym and with a new baby on the way, that pricetag was just a little above us right now.

I'm building a repertoire of Body-Soild free weight equipment to compliment the cardio stuff. Right now all I have is a GFID31 bench and a 90 lb set of Powerblocks (which I also HIGHLY recommend) but I am looking to add other items later (like a power rack, lat station, squat station, etc) as space allows. My wife also wants another big screen LCD TV for that room too so there goes another grand on that also.....ok, fine.....I didn't exactly object to that purchase either.

We bought a Schwinn 430 Elliptical a couple months back from Amazon for $599 shipped and we love it. I'm 6'5" and the stride is tolerable to me, and it's stout. VERY STOUT. It ended up with about the best ratings for ANY elliptical for under a grand, and at $599 with free shipping, the price was right. If you're looking for an elliptical, it's definitely one to consider. The quality is very good. Also, it complimented the Schwinn Bowflex that we already had, so that was just a nice little bonus.

Congrats on the treadmill Jamie. That will definitely be better than bundling up in 20-below weather to try to run in 10" of frozen slush!

You could do what I do. Promise yourself that when it warms up you'll get out and exercise. In the mean time you challenge yourself to eat entire large sized pizzas and drink beer. When the end of summer comes along you look at yourself and say, well there's always next year.

Do you know how much pizza and beer $1800 would buy? Hella.
