I know the minute you all read that title you went
"Oh, God here we go again, another Tire thread!"
YES IT IS!
But I would like to try to put this thread in a different direction.

I just scored a nice set of Mickey Thompson Classic II Rims.
16x8, 4.25 backspacing (or somewhere around there)
Here are some pics:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/Nighthief/4Runner/Rims/DSC03693.jpg

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/Nighthief/4Runner/Rims/DSC03695.jpg

So I want to wrap a very nice aggressive off-road tire as since these rims will be mounted only when I hit the trails
(I still have to drive there)
The tires I have selected in the poll are the tires I want to know about.
Since these rims and tires will only be mounted when I hit the trails (still have to drive there) I want something aggressive.

I would like to hear the opinions form those running any of tires listed above at this moment.
Pros and Cons,
Please no opinions on what I should or should not.
I will make that decision on my own later,
I just want to hear the opinions from those running these tires currently.
Thank you :D

I personally would like to run the Super Swamper SSRs but I haven't hear from anyone running them and I would like to hear from people who have run them along with the others listed. :D

(For some reason I still feel like I might get flamed for this thread.... please don't kill me )

for what its worth, my next tires will be the mtr's.

i like my bfg AT's, never let me down. alot of people say they are very heavy. but they have great tread life for the street, depending how much you drive on the street, might be a big deal.

heard OK things about the nittos, but i heard tread life was less than spectacular, and the design isnt quite as aggressive as some others.

I am using the A/T now, and love it.
I was originally going to upgrade the size on my stock rim after the lift and run those as a DD,
But will be looking more for a HT tire with the wonderful price in gas rising :-)

Super Swamper (in its wide variety of type) seems to be a popular tire with the trail guys around here,
That and the Mickey Thompson Baja Claw (and are now regretting it.....)

Here on the westcoast, MTR's work great for most of the wheelin..... But since your back east, go with what is more popular out there, SSR's seem to clean better in the mud compared to MTR's, but MTR's will have better tread life.

well out here, in the snow, rain, and the rocks, I absolutly love these tires, they stick like glue, on anything, lol I got 50K miles out of the first set, still had about 5-7Kish left in them, but had the cash to get another set, so I did while I had it, lol they are not near as loud as the Bridgestones, they are loud and only lasted about 30K, thats why i got another set, I honestly dont see myself going to or trying another brand, as Im really happy with these, for I use them for, UNLESS, I get a killer deal on something else, lol.
I think the key with MTs is to rotate them every 6K and check the alinement when you get the rotated.

What tire size are you running?
And you still DD your rig right?

I rotate my A/Ts every 10K (its been 20k on them already :yikes:)

I had MTZs and loved them. Good tread life (similar to MTRs) but do MUCH better in the mud. ebay usually has the best MTZ prices.

Running the BFG MT's. Work pretty well for as little tread as they have now. Grab rocks pretty well, and are MUCH lighter than the 35" Trxus MT's that are waiting to go on.

Balancing is an issue though. Not sure if it's from the steel rims or from the tires though.

I would NOT get the ProComp Radial Muds if I were you (the Xtreme Muds bight be a different story). A buddy of mine has the radial muds and while they are an ok price, they are pretty loud for a mud and the tread chunks readily. His '05 Doublecab Taco sounds like it has a wing of fighters following it around when driving... IMHO you can get a better tire for the same price as these things.

You choices do not include one of my favorite mud tires- the Interco Truxs M/T. While they are a little hard to balance, they are an EXCELLENT value for the price, and have tread wear and traction similar to a Goodyear MTR. They are a tough tire with good traction in a variety of conditions, thick sidewalls, chip-resistant compound, and are actually quiet for an off-road tire. You should definitely check them out, I think a 33x12.50r15 is around $150... I have been very happy with mine

This is the second time in this thread that the Interco Truxs M/T has been mentioned.
Just curious, when reading up on this tire, isn't it part of the super swamper line?

I will add them to the list seems a lot are running them.

They're actually part of of the TrXuS line, so "related" to the god-awful STS's. They're only related to a Swamper because they're made by the same company, Interco.

I am actually running Procomp X-terrains, but wouldnt buy again, as they sidehill something awful.
They do grip well, although seem to have a problem cleaning themselves out very much...

I will soon be purchasing a set of Radial Interco TSL's. (36X12.5X15)

X2 on what bruce said. they're awesome in dry rock, ok in mud, not so great in snow. great for a DD tire...its what i had on both my old runners. they wear great..and the sidewall protection cant be beat..no comparison hands down. theres a reason why so many run them...especially in dry rock conditions.

now..if you have snowy winters, and are relying on your next tires to get you through them..if you go MT/R, get them siped. otherwise, its not the best choice for snow. trxus or toyos would fair better in snow i thinks..but both are quite heavy compared to the rest on your list. anything interco is uber strong, but they have soft compounds so they will wear faster.

cant comment on the others as i have no first or 2nd hand experience with them.

The TrXuS M/T's do quite well in the snow as well. They have a pretty good amount of siping, and as such grab on to slick snow and ice better than I would have expected.

just a thought, radial iroks if its only a trail tire?

their is a 33 but its like 14 inchs wide.

i plan to get a set of 36x13.50 for the trails later down the road.

one thing ive known

dest M/Ts, great tire for the west and mid west, not as great for the thicker mud.

Bumping thread to add a few questions.

One is, Now that I have these MT Classic 2 Rims that are 16x8
What tire size can I fit?
For example, can I throw my BFG 265/70/R16 on them?
or will they be too skinny to fit?

I am new to the world of aftermarket rims and what tires will fit,
So I ask for your assistance.

All-Terrain T/A® KO (http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/specs/all-terrain-t-a-ko/44.html)

According to this you are good with a 7"-8.5" wheel.

Bump For and Exteremly pissed off guy....

For those of you contemplating after market rims,
be for warned, the MT Classic II rims 16x8 with the 4.35 or whatever backspacing will not fit!
The calipers rub on the side...
I mean they will fit if you have spacers, but as for a stock setup, your gonna be SOL.

Another reason I bump is I know a guy here in PA that has some Eagle Alloy 16x8 with 4" BS and some MTZ tires on them.
The tires are 285/75/16, Will they rub with stock suspension?
If so where?

If I can sell my current rims I will by these rims and tires off of him.
I feel like a total homer right now....
