Does the FSM recommend a time/mileage for swapping out the plug wires?? The passenger side is coil-overs, so the wires are for 1,3, & 5 on the drivers side.

I just swapped out my second set of plugs yesterday after realizing they were 30K past due.:yikes: Seems like I just did it a year or two ago... :headscratch:

my general rule for wires is every other or every third sparkplug change. not sure on the recommend toyota interval though.

I changed my original ones out at 90K FWIW.

Not sure what the manual recommends, but as a mechanic I used to use 8 years as an interval.
That being said, I am way overdue myself and they still run fine.

Yeah, I generally don't replace my plug wires unless:

a) The insulation is cracking. This might not happen for 100k+ miles. We replaced the plug wires in the woman's truck a while ago, and only because it seemed like a good thing to do. They had 115k miles on them, and were still going strong. For what it's worth, that was the truck's first ever spark plug change as well (you could tell because the engine still had the factory original plugs, e.g. NGK's on one bank, and Denso's on the other).

b) I'm suspicious of their connection to the spark plug, ignition issues. This is sort of a subjective thing, but is an easy possibility to rule out first if you're troubleshooting an engine problem. Did this a while ago on the 4Runner, but it didn't help so I'm running the new plug wires and kept the old ones as an emergency backup in case they are ever needed.

c) I'm bored and need to "fix" something

When they start to arc towards the manifold then its time.
