Well I don't know if some of you recall FreeJake3 having an weird noise in his engine bay and with the help from everyone here,
he found the root of the noise to be from the A/C Idler Pulley, the bearing had become dirty.

Well I have been running without A/C since early fall because I too have the same issue.
(I removed the A/C Belt and Idler Pulley)

To get to the point, Instead of trying to figure out how to take the baring out on my pulley out of my 97,
I nabbed a 99 idler pulley out of a taco.
I would like to clean it and have a few questions about it since the 99 pulley is different from the 97.
Pics As Follows:
99 Left 97 Right

First let me break down how the 99 pulley came to me cause that is where the route of my questions come from.
First : idler tension screw with the bolt that the pulley sits on:

Second : Some sort of spacer I presume

Third : The pulley itself

Forth : Some sort of dust cover I presume

Fifth : The nut to hold it all together

As for my questions.
1) How do I clean and get to the bearing?
-I would like to make sure its cleaned and well oiled so I don't get that horrific sound once I put the A/C belt back on.

2) The spacer, which way does it go?
-the current way it sits does not look right to me
-if i turn it the other way then the dust cover doesn't sit snug enough and the pulley moves about 1/4 or an inch either way

Appreciate the help in advance.
Just trying to slowly get my truck back up and running normally before summer hits

Edit: taking a look at my old pulley I noticed that I did indeed have a dust shield thing so to speak, but it is missing the shielding part, like something has eaten away the rest of it.....

1) The bearing is not servicable AFAIK.

2) The smaller part should sit in the groove on the AC idler bracket between the bracket and the idler pulley

1) Interesting cause I could have swore FreeJake3 said he pulled the bearing and cleaned it. (hoping he will chime in soon)

2) Cool, Now I just need to get new belts and put everything back together (and a kit to recharge the a/c)

You can press the bearing out if needed. But why? You can get a new pulley with bearing for like $20. Go to rockauto.com, its in the belt drive section. Part #45003.

the bearing is sealed... similar to that of the rear wheels but has a smaller size..cheaper and less hassle if you buy a new one. it's an assembly but without the long bolt.

factory installed: 88440-36060

dealer installed: 88440-04040

Bumping with an update.
I blasted the new pulley I got off the 99 with wd40 to clean it up.
Reinstalled everything and started her up and she is purring like a kitten.
Only thing I have to take car of now is replacing the alt, thats starting to whine, and I figure if it has to be changed, and is eligible to upgrade, UPGRADE!

Thanks again everyone for your assistance.
It's nice to have AC in the truck again!
