My buddy got one of these a couple of months ago - his is charcoal with anthracite wheels - looks killer. We were finally able to get together tonight and I took it for a spin.
OMG - 0-60 in 5 seconds is some FUN STUFF!! We took a few rolling start full throttle blasts too - boy is that power delivery smooth.
Made me think differently than I have about Volvos that's for sure.

Not your typical soccer mom ride here ^^
I worked on Volvo heavy duty trucks for the past two years and let me tell you, those are some premium rigs. Some people think they're butt ugly, but they really are classy rides.
It the S60 R turbocharged?

s60 r's are sweet. i work as a tech at a nissan/volvo dealership so i drive and play with them alot. my friend bought one from my work and he lets me hammer on it. he even lets me take it to work when it needs service so he dosent have to drive. i hope your friend has volvo warranty or extended warranty they have their common problems like any other car and parts arent cheap.
steering racks, angle/bevel gears, rear diffs are the big ones

The S60 R is an in-line 5 cylinder turbocharged. Power rating is 300bhp / 295ft-lbs of torque. Vehicle weight is rated at 3570 lbs. Not too shabby! My friend also has one, and hes like 20 years old. WTF! His is the automatic transmission option with the steptronic style shift option. Putting it on race mode, or whatever the most extreme mode is, the power delivery is smooth and nice. Shifts are solid, but aren't as sporty as an M3 and hard as an M3. The interior is very nice, plush and high quality. My only gripe with it is that the front bumper hangs really low on the R models. This vehicle has some true sporty aspects to it but it doesn't sacrifice the luxury and comfortable side. I believe this vehicle is also discontinued...or that might be the S40 R.

Yep, 07 was the last year for it.
Funny thing you mention how low the front is. Part of the reason he stopped over was so I could remove those little winglets off the front fascia. His wife nailed them on an steep apron or something and fubared the brackets. They use aluminum rivets, foam tape and RTV to hold them on. I had to drill the rivet heads out for him so we could remove it and fix the brackets (thank goodness for my rt. angle drill - that sucker is low)
What I really liked about it was how smoooth the power delivery was. The only similarly powered car I've driven recently was a Jag XJ8 (also 300 hp, but more car to move) - different animal though with the V8. I think what fascinates me is that you really don't get any lag, nor much drama from the engine compartment.

That's really an apples to oranges comparison.
The IS F got panned by Motor Trend. There is a shoot out in the May issue (that I got today). M3, vs C63 vs IS F. IS F was ranked last - wasn't really panned, the competition was THAT good. M3 won.
The S60 R stickered for $45k new (I think he got it for $23k or so). The M3/C63/IS F are all around $63-64k similarly equipped.
