Ever get so pissed stuck in traffic that you literally wanted to kill everyone in front of your with a flick of a trigger button that blasted an opening so you can drive through like in the movie Evan Almighty? Welp here's an article I found on Green Daily which pretty much said it all.

As far as I'm concerned, every minute spent sitting in traffic is not only time wasted, but the stress and pollution it creates takes a minute off the end of your life -- maybe two. Look, I'm not a doctor and this formula is totally not scientific -- but it seems pretty believable. So, if you find yourself spending time in one of the top 5 best/worst cities for wasting your life in traffic, you might want to get your hands on a bike. It may add minutes to your life.

Think you're city made the grade?

5. Dallas

Suburban sprawl and the SUV mentality have conspired to make Dallas a wonderful place to read a book while sitting in your car. Dallas is the fastest growing city in the country, and although they've thrown $900M at a light rail, growth is clearly out-pacing any traffic solutions. Average commuter's time lost to traffic - 58hrs a year

4. Washington DC

It's ironic that the city that houses the federal government can't even succeed at modest city planning -- or maybe it's metaphoric. The suburban sprawl of the District of Columbia, mixed with the confusing landscape of the Beltway makes the nation's capital a traffic nightmare. Average commuter's time lost to traffic - 60hrs a year

3. San Francisco

The city might be full of beautiful views and environmentalists, but their traffic infrastructure is not all peace and love. Bridges to get in and out of Bay City create some nasty bottlenecks.Average commuter's time lost to traffic - 60hr a year

2. Atlanta

Cheap home prices and a sprawling network of suburbs have created a traffic headache to rival any in the country. Atlanta has also held the honor for being one of the fastest growing cities for the last decade, putting more strain on the transit system. Average commuter's time lost to traffic - 60hrs a year

1. Los Angeles

This one's no shocker, most anyone who's visited this mega-city has had a taste of it's smoggy congestion problem. The LA Transit Authority wants to pass a new tax on driving, but like many of the cities on this list, the population is very spread out. So there's no clear solution. Average commuter's time lost to traffic - 72hrs a year

Looks like I'm screwed period! HA. No love from the LA residents but we do have everything within an hours worth of hell (driving) :)

I've grown up in Atlanta, and yes if you know how to drive it's alright but some cars like mine aren't built for speed. And it's not gettin up, I go to school in south GA and to get to my house north of Atlanta every now and then, I have to take 75 to 285 past 20 no matter how you drive you can't get through dead stopped traiffc.

what no Denver :headscratch: they must not have been here, so many freakin rude, non-driving people, and dont let it snow  most of the people here are from Ca. that have never driven in snow. Last week there was a 70, yes 70, car crash on I-70 during some snow, and yesterday it was closed again due to wrecks, :headscratch:

Couple years ago, I drove a 15 passenger van pulling a 16' trailer through Atlanta in the rain during rush hour. It took forever! Atlanta is a city I have no plans on moving to. :D

Dallas, actually the whole DFW area, sucks but Houston is at least 5 times worse.

re smog, there have only been 2 smog alert days in the past 3 years, i believe, from what i recall of a recent LA Times article. so those days have pretty much gone by thanks to tighter regulations on emissions and additives in gas. accordingly, we pay the highest gas prices in the nation (not including HI, of course)

there's no escaping traffic around the country. its gonna get worse every year. ive been to/lived in many cities, and each city has its unique traffic problems. ive been stuck on the beltway in DC as well as surrounding cities outside DC. ive been stuck in bridge traffic in the CA Bay area as well as in Boston. I've driven in Atlanta at 1pm and wondered why there was traffic. there's really no sense in bitching about traffic. i just try to check sigalert.com here in LA and plan around it.

im gonna start a flame here, but you know why their is a lot of traffic, the hippies couldnt close their legs. now we have teenage hoes running around with twins in their bellies still in highschool.

because of these stupid chicks, we will overpopulate the world

Blake you're on the right path but probably the wrong reasoning. I believe the population growth directly affects the congestion level to some respect. Cities with better mass transit systems will be able to overcome the traffic to some respect but once the saturation level is met you really just get traffic all across the board.

I'm actually surprised to see DC on the list as they have a really good mass transit system in place but then again I've never driven there so maybe on the road it's hell. I will say that their subway system rocks! LA is no surprise as we don't have anything remotely close to a decent mass transit system like any other city. We are working on building a mass transit system but this will take years if not decades before we see any forward progress. We're just too accustomed to drive so until we change our behavior we're screwed.

Unfortunately I do not see traffic to go away. It's only going to get worse as the population grows. The problem is that we all want to work in the big cities believing that there's a better opportunity there so we drive great lengths to keep our careers. Sadly I think we're all victims to this and only when we change our beliefs that there are other opportunities outside of the big cities, traffic will diminish. Then again maybe not? At any rate traffic bites!

i fully expected it to be on the list

but its really only bad at peak hours and the big dig stuff has eased congestion a little.

very true...

with one exception. ive noticed when i go to portland, OR, everyone drives the speed limit. here, you never think twice about doing 70 or 75 in a 65 mph zone, but up there everyone drives the speedlimit. its crazy!!!

everyone out of socal is such a nice driver.

by far the worst part is the 60 freeway. definitely has gotten 100000 times worse within the last 10 years. hell you know it's bad when it's busy on the damn weekends!!!

the i10 through redlands is really bad since they built all those homes east of me in banning and such places.

simple fact: there are just too many people.

you need to drive the 91 more often

the funny thing is that I've always thought that the 91 was death but surprising on the weekends it's not as bad as the work week where the masses from the IE are heading into the OC. the 60 on the other hand is just suicide on sat/sun. to this date I have no clue why but I know that the traffic got worse as they rebuilt that speedzone mini-golf center between Azusa and Fullerton.
