The other day, a stranger pulled up to the house and asked if I owned 'that clean 4runner' in the driveway. I affirmed and he asked what had been done to it. I listed a few things and pointed to some others. I described my build-up thread and the near fanatical evolution the Runner passed through. I thought he was an interested fellow yota guy, but it turns out he wanted to buy it. He offered me nearly twice what I have into it including labor. Frankly, for the past few weeks I have fantasized about what I could do with the value of the money the runner could yeild were I to let her go. In fact Ric's April fools thread about selling the truck was the genesis of such a disturbing thought. Now, after a few weeks of consideration, the disturbing has moved to an entertaining fantasy....think of all the guns I could buy!

Alas, I declined his offer with a handshake. Upon further reflection, I began this odyssey to benefit more than just myself. My family enjoys hitting the trails and the mountains the runner will take us to. I could sell out and buy toys for personal gratification, but this isn't about me...

Anyway, after we buy our house and I have a place to continue the build I know this decision to keep the runner will be confirmed to have been right....

Anyone else been tempted by the dark side?

OMG Sir Fuster!
I began to shed a tear at the beginning there.
But I am glad you held strong and kept the 4Runner.

I was tempted.
After my accident, the gentleman that worked on my beloved drove her after she was finally complete to my satisfaction, and his jaw just about fell off his face.
He was ready to offer me what I paid for, plus what I have put into it.

Only two thoughts went through my head.
"Oh The Trail Rig and Tow Rig I Could By!"
And
"NEVER! In a million years, I have put to much time, money, and personal frustration to give her up"

I chuckled and thanked him for the complements that he kept handing me and told him to check out the 99-00 Limiteds for the same price and more features.

And wouldn't you know it, I went back to the shop and I believe I saw a shiny runner in the lot (that actually wasn't being fixed)

Isn't it funny how we betray ourselves by taunting fate?

If someone offered me twice what my 4Runner was worth, I'd check to make sure he isn't a Nigerian who needed me to give him $300 so he could smuggle his money out of his palace...

Well, it was more like nearly twice what I have in it. I did do most of it myself and bought it for very little to begin with. Still it was a generous offer. I suspect it was because there is no rust at all now where most of these around here are cancer carcasses.

Either way, it's still in my driveway...hehe.
