What do you do for work ? With such a wide variety of people on this site, I was wondering where you get the cash for your Yota ?

I am a mechanic/welder for the amusement ride industry.

I work at a supermarket chain here on the east coast.

The unfortunetly, any money that I makes goes for my Yota, just not in the ways I would like :shake:

Dang gas.....

EDIT: I go to college full time, but I don't consider it a job, I consider it a punsishment, I am not getting any reward for it (untill I got to UTI :D)

full time student here at Cal Poly Pomona in Engineering Technology.

i used to have a (very) small tech support business i ran from junior year of highschool up until about 2 years ago. work started interfering with school and i would go 3 months with no work, and then a month of working 12 hour days. needed something that paid biweekly and had "normal" hours.

this summer i hope to get a job at an auto parts store (learn even more about cars) and maybe start another business making certain items for the 3rd gen (more to come on that later). after i graduate, look to get a job in either the defense sector or with an offroad company.

Most of what I do includes building, installing, and maintain SMART classrooms as well as digital signage and vairous other projects. 300+ rooms, and more on the way. We are getting into a lot of specialized projects now, and most recent was an AV system in the performing arts theater. It's cool stuff, and our small department stuck in the basement has made it into several well known AV magazines and we are in the running as being one of the most high tech campuses.

Each department is responsible for the content they display, so we leave the software up to them. Engineering uses Nexia, while most others use MS powerpoint for Mac. We provide the 46" NEC LCDs with a Mac Mini mounted on the back, and make sure it is connected to the network. We started the digital signage about a year ago, and so far we've got about 80 or so mounted, with another 20 going up over the summer. :D

BTW, Tankota, I was homeschooled too!

I worked for 20 years in the office design and office furniture industry. I did everything there was to do - customer service, installation, project management, CAD design, sales, and also managed and directed the whole sordid affair for some time.

I got tired of this line of work AND the BS AND politics. I was fortunate enough to get caught up in a workforce reduction while working for Boise Cascade/Office Max. This gave me an opportunity to consult for about 2 years and make some decent money. While this was going on, I was getting some other irons in the fire.

My primary mainstay these days is web design, hosting and maintenance (http://www.cebsource.com). I had been dabbling with all sorts of web stuff for about 10 years, so it was the natural choice. I've filled my quota of donated work - among these are a site for the local youth athletic association (http://www.raasports.org), my kid's catholic school sports program (http://www.st-i.org), a community action (http://www.oakmontgrocery.com) site, and numerous other forums and sites that keep me poor. I'm always looking for sites to do (that actually pay) and am willing to pay finders fees on projects that I win that were referred to me. (hint, hint, nudge, nudge)

To assure that I don't get too bored doing just one thing, I have diversified. I keep my CAD chops up to snuff with doing the occasional CAD drawing for getting waterjet (and now laser) cutting (http://www.controlledcutting.com) done. I work closely with a couple of shops - I'm sort of their internet marketing arm. This also holds my interest since I like designing stuff and doing the problem solving/sourcing that goes along with getting things manufactured. (just wish this was A: more profitable and B: more abundant) I'm looking to get a cheap copy of Solidworks and play with that too - I've done 3D modeling long ago when the software was lousy and enjoyed it.

And to continue to fuel my love of all things 4x4 and Off-Road, I'm a Trail Gear dealer now. I figured as I bring 1UZ swap parts to market, some diversity in my product offering would be a good thing. I'm already in talks with another (major) vendor and plan to make my site (COREquipment.com) (http://www.corequipment.com) into a viable internet resource for all of my Yota bretheren. :D (still in the works BTW)
