An article title on the MSN homepage caught my eye titled "5 dates no guy wants to go on." Curious, i clicked it to find that number 1 is the following:

Hiking
Hiking is an activity many men look forward to with the same relish they take in reading Aristotle in the original Greek, receiving a prostate exam, or attending a Celine Dion concert. The way we see it, nature is way overrated. How many flowers can you smell? How many sunsets can you ooh and ahh over? How many coyotes can you worry about being in the vicinity? Plus, there’s no access to the Internet or email. No TV sports. Bugs everywhere. What about any of this spells fun? Unless you look at fun as the first three letters of funeral.

You want your shot of nature? Invite us to the beach at sunset. Take a blanket and a six-pack, make out for half an hour, then head home so we can get back to civilization. That’s enough nature to hold us for the next three months.

nature overrated?! no internet/email, no TV, a few bugs??? :lame: i realize the opinions of this forum will be very biased, but really... what MAN doesnt like being out of the city surviving with what he has and building a huge fire! grow a pair! :flipoff:

ARE YOU FRICKEN SERIOUS??? WHAT KIND OF METROSEXUAL GUYS DID THEY POLL FOR THIS CRAP?!?!?!

im sorry, most the men i know would love to go outdoors on a date!!!

i hate sports, esp the ones televised in this country, so getting away from that any way possible is a plus in my book...

^^ thats exactly what I would have said, to the tee!

When they were talking about guys going on dates do they mean with other guys :gay: or what. Someone has definitely lived in a high rise condo for way to long.

I always found it to be the other way around, there have been precious few women in my life that really liked to go out and run around a mountain. Luckily I married the last one I found :D

I have to disagree, hockey is worth watching. Who doesn't love a sport with real teeth and blood on the ice, where you can club someone with a stick and for punishment they let you sit down and rest for a couple minutes?

As long as I have internet service on my phone I'm game :tongueout:

I'll admit I love the outdoors but I really gotta have my internet 24x7! O yeah I'll agree that I really hate bugs!!!

ya thats a retarded poll. we would all love for a date with a girl on a nature walk. its just hard to find a good girl that is down with that. and deep down inside we all wish we could go on a nature walk with a cute nice girl and hopefully by the end of the trip you have her bent over a rock :D

Funny - I read this post before going on my daily news site and an article was posted there as one of the headlines

"Does Nature Turn you on?"
http://lifewise.canoe.ca/SexRomance/SexFiles/2008/05/15/5574076-sun.html

And here is a sub article on "the Worlds Best places to get it on..."

Have I ever believed in polls?

With the exception of the polls posted here, nope.

Every one has their own opinion of what they like and don't like. You ask 100 men from NYC, LA, etc. chances are, you are not going to get near as many outdoors types as you would if you choose, Vancouver, BC, or places where access is so much closer.

All this poll proves is that you cannot trust polls to be representative of the facts.

Time for my comments!

What's wrong with Celine Dion? Really though, you can tell the guy who wrote this is a pussy.

The way we see it, nature is way overrated. How many flowers can you smell? How many sunsets can you ooh and ahh over? How many coyotes can you worry about being in the vicinity?

Right, nature is overrated :gay:

Not big on flowers, sunsets are awesome, and you shoot the damn coyotes. Plus, what kind of sissy boy is afraid of a coyote? I'm afraid of a grizzly bear, not a lame ass coyote.

Plus, thereç—´ no access to the Internet or email. No TV sports. Bugs everywhere. What about any of this spells fun? Unless you look at fun as the first three letters of funeral.

I have a feeling we'd ALL be better people if we didn't have internet or TV access 24/7. I HATE feeling uncomfortable when I don't have cell service. I SHOULD be enjoying myself without worrying about emails, telephone calls, or who won the game.

You want your shot of nature? Invite us to the beach at sunset. Take a blanket and a six-pack, make out for half an hour, then head home so we can get back to civilization. Thatç—´ enough nature to hold us for the next three months.

Make out for 30 mins???? This guy is DEFINITELY a metrosexual. That or has no balls.

I'm so lucky that my sweetheart of almost three years is is and avid outdoor freak just like me. She is one of the few people that can almost out hike me at high altitude with a heavy pack.

Our idea of a pretty nature walk consists of crashing through heavy brush scrambling over huge boulders and usually ending up pretty scraped and bruised, but grinning like a couple of idiots. :hillbill:

I think we were together almost two years before I took her on a real nice restaurant date. I do think we are and exception to the general rule though. :screwy:

X2 on hockey.

If you consider the poll is from MSN, you have to figure that everyone over there are computer nerds that consider going to Frys is an outing.

see thats awesome. have to admit im always slightly amazed to see women who wheel and camp with us. most would not tolerate it at all, and very few actually enjoy it, and even fewer enjoy it more than we do, i need one of the latter.

as much as i love my computer and the internet, and do consider going to fry's an outting, i love being secluded in nature even more.

these people need to man up and get out and mix it up with wildlife. buy a gun, not for hunting, but to protect against bears and coyotes (the one we had here would eat out of your hand... so dangerous) if they are really afraid. pansies.

No offense to any of the ladies on the board.
But that response looks more like a woman did it then a man...

Just my .02

I like hiking, but for a Date, not really.
The beach for a date in the out doors is nice,
or a picnic in the park.

But most NOT ALL girls like a more romantic place to 'get to know' one another.

Again just my .02

I say man up even more, buy a gun, for protection or hunting! I'll tell you what, until you gut your first deer, you have not truly experienced the outdoors!!! kidding of course... but it still is an interesting experience.

au contraire, my friend.

I had one of the most memorable and wonderful 'dates' of my life (thus far) while hiking. It's what two people make out of it.

personally, my guns will never kill anything that isnt directly threatening me or another person. i know alot of people hate guns because of hunting, so im saying just buy one for protection, against animals both wild and urban. thats what my guns are for.

this article is a symptom of a much larger problem in this country. people are afraid to get dirty. i LOVE my shower every morning. but i will probably never bring a shower to a weekend camping trip. i dont mind getting dirty working on my truck, doing yard work (thats a whole 'nother issue...), etc.

oly884

Why get dirty when it's just easier for someone else to do it?

While we're at it, health care, let someone else pay for it.

Let someone else help me with my mortgage.

Let someone else tell me how I should live my life!

The people who will be successful in life are those that do things for themselves and not rely on others.

Or those that convince people that they will die without them.

I think the one who wrote this crap should turn in his MAN CARD. I for one am very lucky to have a wife that wakes me up to go fishing, and is constantly bugging me for the next camping trip. A good sleeping bag, next to a fire, brings out the best in any romance. A high maintenance woman is not looking for a maintenance man.
