So there are pages and pages of DRL disable threads on the net, but most of them apply to the '01-02 models that have the DRL box under the steering column. I have an early 2000 with the black metal box between the battery and fender liner in the engine bay. Which wire do I need to tap to be able to switch my DRLs on and off? I want to avoid unplugging it altogether, but I can't find a Toyota wiring diagram specific to my style of DRL.

Thanks!

Oh, got some new Micro DE fogs for my truck and will be installing those today. :D The "foglight mod" won't work on a DRL equipped truck.

Yeah, I only know of the "unplugging" method on the '00 4Runners to disable their drls.

Are you trying to install a switch inline to turn them on & off? If so, sorry, but I cannot help. Most just unplug the box. Keep us updated though if you are able to install a switch inline. I'd like to know how to do it too for future reference.

Yes, I would like to have them on a switch so I can turn them on and off. Usually, I like having them, I just want to be able to turn them off at drive-in movie theatres and at campgrounds.

I installed the factory fog lights and did the fog light mod, but the mod does not work on trucks with DRL, even with the DRL box unplugged. All the fog light mod did was allow them to stay on with the high beams, but they still will not turn on with just the parking lights.

gotcha. makes sense.

As far as the fog light mod, I did this mod as well and I can turn my fogs on/off with just the parking light on. Maybe the mod works different for '00 4Runners than it does with '01-'02 4Runners?

It does. The 01-02 models have a daytime running light ECU mounted below the steering column. The '00 models don't have it. The other difference is the 2000's have a resistor box mounted between the battery and fender...the 01-02s apparently do not.

If I had either a wiring diagram or knew where the '00 DRL ECU was located, I could probably figure something out.

Yeah I know the drl systems are completely different on both '00 4Runners and '01-'02 4Runners, I just did not realize the fog light mod would not work the same on both.

Wish I could be of more help w/ a wiring diagram!
