Ladies and gents,

It's time for the 6th Annual Pismo 4RJ! Last year's Jambo was a huge hit, and we plan on making this year's even better. Come out for some sun, sand, food, wheeling, prizes, and good times. This is a family friendly event, so bring the whole family! For those that didn't get to attend last year, or for those who just need a refresher to get the blood pumping, Last year's Pismo 4RJ (http://www.ultimateyota.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=2762.0)

Lookout (2WD friendly), from there we will have a few options. For those with 4wd and not too concerned about brush scratches, they can do some of Garcia Ridge Trail, others can continue on Hi Mtn Rd. to Pozo (and then out to Hwy 101), or others could backtrack on Hi Mtn. Rd. to Hwy 101. (I will provide directions and I will post them here with GPS coord. so you can copy them yourself also).

*Jenn of JnJ has been nice enough to volunteer to come up with some activities for the kids. If you are bringing kids, please post up their ages so that Jenn can have a decent idea of the age groups and how many. Also, if you have any ideas let either me or Jenn know. Jenn, thanks again!*

Some suggested items to bring for dune running and camping:

Spare set of keys (sand can have a funny way of swallowing up important things)
Water for drinking, cleaning, etc... especially if you are camping
If tent camping, some kind of sand stakes or at least heavy items to leave in the corners of your tent.
Toilet Paper :poke:
Warm clothes (it can really cool off at night)
Wet weather gear (we'll keep an eye on the weather as it gets closer)
Small broom and dustpan for those tent camping (it won't take you long to figure out why you need it)
Shovel (helpfull for many things in the sand, in the camp and while out on the dunes)
Snatch strap (no metal hooks!)
CB or at least some of those little handheld family radios (we will run both)
Piece of plywood or other wood to put your jack on to keep it from sinking in the sand in the event you need to use it.
Fire Extinguisher
First Aid kit (we will have some out there, but it is always a great idea to have a small stocked one in your vehicle)
....more to come as I think of other things

Clam Chowder!!!!!!!

The clam chowder will be from Splash Cafe (http://www.splashcafe.com) and you will have your choice of a bowl of clam chowder or clam chowder in a toasted sourdough bread bowl.

I am asking that you prepay for your clam chowder, so I know for sure how much to get. Also, that's one less thing you need to worry about once you are there. There is a slight chance that there will be extra available for those that don't prepay and want to buy it there, but don't count on it.

The regular bowl will be $5.00

The sourdough bread bowl will be $7.00

I must have your order and $$ by Oct. 7th, 2008

You can paypal me at stovertileanddesign@charter.net Make sure to include your name/username and what you are paying for. If you don't have paypal, pm me for other options.

For those that haven't had it before and are wondering, the bowl on its own makes a decent size meal and the sourdough bread bowl is a huge meal. Don't miss out on this tradition!

We will be serving it in camp from 4-6pm on Sat. Oct. 11th.

I posted this link in the first post also:

Luv 2 Camp Rental Trailers (http://www.luv2camp.com/index.html)

For those that want more comfort than a tent. They pick up and deliver the trailers for you, so no hassle. At Surf N Turf, usually a couple families will go in on one, as they are a little pricey. Anyways, just wanted to put the option out there.

Well..... I am backing out. Hell, I dont even have a Toyota anymore, I even sold the offroad setup for the Touareg.

The real reason though, the Wife and I are going to see Henry Rollins in Santa Barbara on the 11th. As much as I would like to go, Henry Rollins is way cooler.

Have fun though and I will be looking forward to the pics. I want to see more jumping this year. More than last year. I want to see you at least 6ft out Bruce.

chrisyota65, I got you added to the list. Welcome to UY. What kind of rig are you bringing.

Colin, bummer man, I was hoping to see the "egg" in action. Have fun seeing Henry Garfield, that should be pretty cool. Although it's only a little over an hour to Pismo from Santa Barbara, seems a shame to be so close and not show up. :D

xonetruthcrewx
07-15-2008, 05:55 PM
Haha, It was a thought, but the show isnt til 9pm. It would make for a super late night. I just cant hange these days doing stuff like that. And like i mentioned above, I sold the offroad setup for the treg. Just rockin the 20's now. Dont think I can air those down much. Ha!

slosurfer
07-15-2008, 06:06 PM
I hear ya, there have been many times we've been to the bowl for a concert in the middle of the week. The drive back after is a killer.

How wide are your 20's, you probably don't have to air down. :D Last time I was there, I pulled a Subaru WRX out that made it way out by the dragstrip till it got caught in a bowl with really soft sand and framed itself. That thing did pretty good once I pulled him out. He drove out fine from there and I don't think he was aired down.
(Pic compliments of Milton aka Cabbage)

xonetruthcrewx
07-15-2008, 07:49 PM
Haha. Thats awesome. The tires on the treg are 275/45/20. I could probably air down a bit and it would probably do alright. The tires do have a M+S stamp. Haha.

Rollins isnt til Saturday night. Maybe cruise to Pismo Friday after work, camp that night, hang out Saturday for a while and then head to Santa Barbara. Hmmmmm. Its a definite possibility. Just under 100 miles from Pismo to Santa Barbara. Gotta talk to the Wife. We'll see.

chrisyota65

sbsurfer i got an 86 yota and 33" tires

xonetruthcrewx
07-20-2008, 09:07 PM
Thinking more about the pic you posted Chris. Back in high school I had a 86 Honda Civic Wagon 4x4. It was a cool car. I remember that we took it out there and screwed around on the dunes and that was with pizza cutters for tires. Something like 185's. Haha. Then one of my friends had a 89 Subaru Wagon. We made it all the way out to comp hill one time. Didnt get stuck once. I remember us passing a Range Rover that was stuck. The look the driver gave us as we passed by. Haha. Priceless.

Anyways, the Wife and I will be there. Not gonna camp though. We will be there first thing Saturday morning and most likely hang til early afternoon before we head off to Santa Barbara to go see Henry Rolling. We will see how the 20's do out in the sand. I can air down some. Probably 25ish psi. The 275's should do alright though. Well see. Alright, Looking forward to this again.

Well, with the heaviest of hearts, Claire and I won't be making it. However, I'm totally down to donate for the raffle. Here's the deal, we are going to do this run.. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=247251&posted=1#post247251 and spend 2.5 weeks in SoCal over Christmas. That's when I'm going to shop like mad for a truck.

Basically I just don't have time to truck shop, wheel, get home... all that in time for the Pismo Jam this year. Work has me travling in a lot, just not to San Diego darn it. Once I get the SoCal truck situation ironed out this will all get a lot easier.

If anyone is planning some Winter wheeling, hopefully we'll be able to make it.

If anyone is selling a 4runner or pickup around them, I might want to buy it.

Oh Crap! Last I had heard was that it got cancelled for this year! I specifically checked about that race before planning this. Last year, it was scheduled for the weekend after the Jambo. It was cancelled due to some environmental BS, looks like they must have got it figured out. :( I'm not too upset about the crowd, because it will still be nothing compared to the summer crowds, but if they have a bunch of the dunes roped off for the course, then that will suck.

I'm going to look into it right now. Thanks for the heads up.

slosurfer

Sent them off an email asking about it. We already plan on camping further down the beach, so we may just want to go a little farther. Hopefully I'll hear back from them soon, concerning what parts are going to be roped off etc....

It does sound like they have some cool stuff going on.

I would suggest getting your camping passes now from www.reserveamerica.com just in case.

Avy, I don't plan on changing the date! Others already have reservations and I thought you and Dan already had tickets. Our riding area may just be cut down some, but it sounds like we won't get bored. They have some cool races it looks like.

I just want to get in contact with them so that we don't run into any potential problems.

 Just got an email from the head guy for the race. Everything is going to be fine.

It will be slightly more crowded than last year and I still suggest you get your reservations now, but he doesn't foresee the dunes selling out of reservations. He also said that this year's event will be smaller since they are not doing the watercraft event.

We will still have plenty of dunes to run on our own. Basically we have all the back dunes and west of sand highway (once the course gets to sand highway, it stays east of sand highway till post 16, if that far). He said there are some really good spots to watch the race back there as well. We should also be fine in our original camping area near pole 6. The pits/starting area for the races will be at post 4.

He invited us to everything. They will have food vendors all day Sat. and Sun. and on Sat. night they will have a BBQ (need to find out the price). That way, those that don't like clam chowder will still have an option on somewhere to get good hot food on Sat. night. He also invited us to watch movies on a big screen at the beach on Sat. night.

On top of all that, we will be able to watch the races. They will have motorcycles, quads, side by sides, and some mini buggies.

He also asked me to pass along that they are still looking for volunteers to be course marshals if any of you are interested.

This should be a fun weekend and will be anything but boring.

so for me and every other n00b, what exactly do we reserve? lol.

slosurfer
09-11-2008, 10:07 PM
Sean you f'n noob! :loser:

www.reserveamerica.com

Type in: Oceano Dunes SVRA in the location search and put Oct. 10, 2008 for the date and then put 2 in the length box, then hit search

Basically you reserve a "site" for the nights you plan on camping, but as you know they don't have sites. What you are reserving is the camping pass. The "sites" are the number of camping passes that they allow per day. Normally in the summer weekends they sell out of the camping passes well in advance. Off season they don't and you can just buy them at the kiosk when you get there. You probably still won't have a problem doing that for the event, but you are better safe than sorry.

L33T35T Tacoma
09-12-2008, 12:19 AM
And if you dont get a pass, which has happened many times before, you can buy a day pass and we can camp your happy ass out in the neighborhood. Done it before, not really an issue except when we had to cram about 9 guys in a 4runner to get everybody back to the campsite for the night, lol. I think that was in steve's 4runner

slosurfer
09-12-2008, 08:46 AM
 That must have been fun!

That is one reason why we moved this thing to after summer.

Normally, I don't reserve a camping pass just incase someone who does have one has to bail, then I can help them out by buying theirs (cough..Jason..cough :D ), but this year I will be reserving mine early.

So be forewarned, get your passes everyone.

Oct. 11th.

Avy, the camping pass actually goes by vehicle. If they are towing a vehicle then the camping pass also covers that vehicle. The number of people doesn't matter.

Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle per reservation. Four wheel drive vehicles are recommended.

Last year I had two vehicles there but didn't tow either of them, so I had to have two passes.

You'll have to find out what Jenn's gameplan is. :D

Love to join you all - just think of my truck as an OVERGROWN LAND CRUISER (Ford Excursion)!!

Bringing 2 kids - 10 year old girl and 8 year old boy.

How can you use Ford and Land Cruiser in the same sentence. What did Land Cruisers ever do to you?

looks like this trip will be my last with you guys out in a long while, me and my gf are getting married and will move to indiana around chrismas, she's just got her second master's degree and a good offer over there making twice as much as i do now, so the move is pretty much a no-brainer.

Ok, I got pricing on the black tees but it's going to cost way too much so I'm not going to go ahead with the black tees. The only way I would see us doing black tees are if we get well over 20 something tees. The reason is because there is a separate setup fee for black tees and that's where it hurts us. Also black tee screens are a few bucks more anyway.

Those that purchase UY gear and want me to bring it with me to the event, please go ahead and place your orders and I will confirm with you via email to make sure. That way I know what orders to hold.

Everyone else, event tees are up for sale in the UY store so go at it :D

The wife and I were just looking at the massive attendee list this year and was wondering what everyone thought about doing up some nametags. We could just take some white labels and black permanent markers and have people make them when they signed in. I know in the past I've found out after an event I was camped out right next to someone from the forum who I'd talked to many times online and didn't even realize who it was till after the event. What do you guys think? Nametags with your SN and real name sound too far fetched?

Okay chris can you PM me your email address so I can
Send you the pics to go with these posts.

So our options are as follows:

1) Plain & simple "Hello my name is.." Adhesive Name badges in either your choice of red or blue.

2) Blank (or with design) adhesive badges.

3) Pin name badges with design (imho best option)

4) Clip name badges with design (most expensive)

5) Hanging name badges with design light duty with white rope

6) Hanging name badges with design heavy duty with black rope.

Those are the option, enclosed is also a rough scetch of the design.
Pretty much they will be either black or red with the UY symbol in the right corner and roguh terrain leading up over it...
Then there will be a line for user name and real name.

Keep me posted you already can see what option I think is the best!

I've done a ton of these name tags in the past - my opinion, you want something that allows for BIG writing - there's nothing more embarrassing than having to get under someone's nose just to read a name tag. Pictures/logos etc are cool but you really want to make sure the main point is working out - what the hell is your name???

I like the idea of being able to put your screen name on the label. The pin-on variety is good too, so they last more than a day. Sticky labels are a pain when you put on a sweater at night and cover the label.

Man it must take you guys ages to prepare all this stuff for registration.

Speaking of the name tag I just got another idea to make it one of a kind for this event,
How about me putting "PISMO 2008" in white letters in the same font as logo in the red terrain part of the badge?

I can alter it and print new ones tonight at my aunts.

And mark there seems to be enough room to right big and with the sharpies I am sure it won't be hard to miss a name ;)

Like chris said I am hoping to find a way to get them lamented without spending an arm and a leg, staples wasn't to helpful, self lament usually backfires for me and I don't have a machine and the one at work crapped out lol!

Scott,
If you decide Friday (might be morning though), planning a convoy with Sean and Jenn's group. Waiting to hear back on their timing. Nice to hear you're going. I'm starting @ 101 & Lost Hills. PM me if anyone wants to caravan.

Vacation requested and approved . I plan to leave Orange County around noon. My kids will go to school half day on Friday. I should be on site around 4-5 PM. It will be enough time for me to setup camp before dark. Anybody in Orange County want to caravan to Pismo on Friday?

Is there fresh water at campsite that we can use to clean up or we have to bring our "clean up" fresh water?

You will need to bring clean water. No campsites, literally just camping on the beach. :D There are pit toilets close by though. Also, there is a company that drives up and down the beach that offers ice, wood, fresh water, will empty your rv tanks (don't worry fresh water is in a different tank on the truck, lol) for those that run out and don't want to get water in town. I want to say that it is $.50 cents a gallon which isn't bad considering the time it would take to go to town to get 5 gallons of water.

I remember gas was $.50 a gallon. Can you imagine $4 for a gallon of water?

Jc,
Keep me posted timewise. Friday is looking likely. I may shoot across the 126 and link up in Ventura.
