well, well, well. i have been drooling for a BudBuilt skid for a long time, got a great deal locally yesterday and picked it after work. it was previously installed on a lifted 02 Taco(6" ProComp), dude sold the truck and i had the skid and belly pan, and they are both powder coated.
i called Bud this morning, by the way, what a great guy to deal with. anyhoo, got the specs sorted out and he's sending me the instructions and mounting hardware, free!
here is what i need to do showing in the picture, i'd ask you guys what would be the best way to do it before i do someting stupid, hehe..

Cut it at the bend, shorten it, re-weld both sides at the right angle. If your worried about strength then double it at the bend with a strip of sheet metal.

Yep, I'd cut it at the bend and just reweld it....it'll be plenty strong enough.

Did you buy it from Vince in HB by any chance?

Asked bcuz he's a good buddy of mine. Races motercycles. I thought about buying that from him but didn't know if I could make it work. Sounds like you got some decent ideas on making it work. Take pics when you get it modified and on your rig.

you'll have to cut it top and bottom, because the angle of the top piece will be off if you dont.
i see no problem with cutting and rewelding, and if you really want some extra strength, i say weld on another piece that is bent to the same angle.

I wouldn't cut the top if you can bump the bend out of it with some clamps and flat-bar or a press. Save some needless welding.

or a grinder with a thin cutting disk.

man, the thing worries me is not the welding, making straight, consistant cuts are my concerns. i really dont wanna do it with a grinder.

Clamp a 1/4" flat bar next to your cut and use it as a guide, like you would if you used a plasma cutter. I make these cuts, with a grinder, at home all the time with no problem. At work we have a plasma cutter that will do 1" no problem, and I still use a 5/16" offset straight-edge with a drag cup for my cuts. The cutting disks I use are 1/16" thick and cost (wholesale) $2.25 a piece.

Just bring it by my place and I'll take care of it for you, when I have your bumper ready.....
