#1, usually no, unless in a public restroom, and not because others are watching, but because public restrooms are nasty.

#2 always....

I have to wash them every time, otherwise they just feel dirty to me. I come from the food industry so washing my hands is like breathing, I do and don't have to think about it.

If I'm standing, no. I shower every day and don't think my junk is that radioactive. Since I spend a fair amount of time helping techs in a dealership, sometimes I'll wash my hands before I pee to get the dirt off.

If I'm using a stall I wash my hands. That's just common decency . . . :poke:

I just use the flushing urinal water to rinse my hands, that way I conserve our water resources...

haha, hey just being honest... if i dont get wet hands, not much need to wash.

i also wash my hands about 5 times a day just from working with different stuff, but not always bathroom related. i also will wipe my hands down with rubbing alcohol if ive been somewhere particularly nasty...

I do after both #1 and #2. I wash my hands alot during the day as well, just from working in all the dust and whatnot that goes along with my job sometimes. So, there are times that I'll wash my hands both before and after using the restroom.

x2 Being a mechanic I wash many times a day. Working around the public (they can be scum) I wash every time I am near a sink or I wear nitrile gloves.

Always, and sometimes even use Purell afterward if I am at school or a public restroom.

Oh I have a whole ritual that I practice. I always wash my hands regardless of #1 or #2. I try not to use public restrooms, especially for #2. But in the unavoidable occasion that I must visit the public mens' roon, I start the ritual washing by collecting the drying towels first and holding them under my arm. Then I address the sink and soap with my hands. After vigorous scrubbing, I dry my hands with the towels and use them as a barrier between my hands and anything that must be manipulated after washing; the faucet valves, the door handle...whatever. After the door is open and held so with my foot, I toss the sullied towels into the trash and escape public sepsis untainted; at least until I have to handle something else. At least those things are less likely to have fecal contamination on them. All in all, I try not to think about microscopic filth too much.

Edit: Were there an 'Always' option, I would have selected that.

OK now how many lied on the poll? Really where do you wash your hands on the trail when you make that quick pit stop? Unless you wet your pants, do you think what's between your legs is dirtier than your arm pits? Who washes their hands after scratching an itch?

BTW does your woman make you wash before she does the deed? and do you make her clean up before you kiss her again?

Yeah for the most part. Public restrooms, yes. When I worked at a bike shop my hands were always dirty. I think I only washed my hands once a shift and thats working, a break, lunch and a couple of pit stops. I never used to get sick though. Now that I have a no mechanic job and wash my hands a lot I have gotten sick more times than I can remember.

Man, what a bunch of obsessive compulsive germophobes we have on this board. :tongueout:

We only just got a portapotty at the shop where I work, and there is definitely no hand sanitizer on the premises. Usually I'll wash up a little if my hands are greasy before I go for a #2. And after using that cheesy single ply TP they supply us with, I sometimes give each hand a shot of brake cleaner just to kill anything that might be there.

Car mechanics get taught to wash their hands after they pee.
Truck mechanics are taught not to pee on their hands. :flipoff:
