all of us went out to breakfast on sunday morning at one of our usual spots... we sat in a booth and normally when we do, my wife and i sit on the outside end of the booth but, for some reason my son curran was sitting on the outside. i didnt think much of it but he ordered a hot chocolate. this restaurant always brings out the hot chocolate way too hot for kids so i usually always get a cup of ice to cool it. well the hot chocolate came out the same time as the pancakes and somehow it ends up in front of the baby. she picked it up and dumped it on herself it was soo hot that her skin came off immediately. we called 911 because we could not get her in her carseat because all the skin on her chest was gone.... well after two days in the burn center she's home and doing better. dressing changes are really hard on us but we are getting it done and it is looking that the burns will heal with no scars and she is very happy at home. for those of you with 1 year olds watch the hot liquids around them after being in the burn unit the docs and nurses said this is very common....

POOR BABY!!!!!!! im so sorry mikey, i cant imagine how scary that must have been for you and your wife, not to mention the other kids and your poor daughter.

i hope she gets better quickly!

restaurants are so bad with hot liquids. a few years ago a dual-decanter wielding waitress was pouring decaf for my mother sitting next to me, and poured hot caffeinated coffee all down my arm. luckily i had no blistering, but that was very painful.

Poor Kiddo! Hope she's not in too much pain. :( This will be one of those stories you can talk about when she's older. :)

Both of my brothers had serious burns like that. My youngest brother was crawling around on the floor and pulled a hot (but turned off) iron off the ironing board. It just barely missed landing directly on him, but then he ROLLED into it! Serious burns on his back and you could see a huge scar for years when we'd be tan in the summer.

My middle brother poured hot tea down his front when he was 4. He didn't have quite as much damage as your daughter.

We still talk about it every once in a while. At least with boys it becomes kind of a macho thing. I survived this as a baby... :hillbill:

That's no Bueno.

Glad she is doing better.
Please let us know if we can do anything.

Is the waitress still alive?

I know if she didn't drop right then and there, she would have wished she had. Busy or not why would she have set it in front of a little baby.

poor girl, I feel bad for her, and mom and dad. I hope she gets better soon. The great thing about kids, they heal so much fast then us old people.

Very careful hugs to the little one. Ok, maybe just a little pat on the head!
Thanks for a good reminder for all of us. I hope the restaurant learned something too...who on earth would ever drink something that hot???

How cruel the irony of parenthood. Children provide us some of the most profound gratification and fulfillment. We are viscerally driven to defend and protect them from calamity and ill consequence yet they are so vulnerable to the jeopardy of fate. When they suffer like your beautiful baby did, we craft the impossible bargain with Providence to give us the pain and relieve them of it. Our love compels us to willingly accept affliction in lieu of their agony.

A cruel irony indeed, but one we wouldn't trade for any treasure imaginable.

I am soothed by reading that she is well and happy. Though circumstances in my life right now prevented me from responding before, my thoughts were with y'all. Give her a hug from the Fusters.

Man thats crazy Mikey, good thing you breed some resilient little buggers though.

Thats good that they say it wont scar up, that would be a hard place to have a burn scar, especially for a girl.

Man....so sorry to hear this. I know what you are going through because my oldest daughter had her hand burnt one time with hot water. The thermostat was going out and it was scalding. we had to rush her to the burn center in Gainesville, Fl when we lived in Jacksonville and sit outside of the room and listen to her scream as they scrubbed the blisters off and we were in tears. Sounds bad....but I know how you are feeling. The doctor gave us some silver sulfodiazine (sp) creme to put on it with every dressing change. No scars to date....so she should be fine with no scars! Once again....sorry to hear of this.

Glad to hear everything is going well Mikey.

I don't know how many times a waiter/ress has either put hot liquid or food in front of my unknowing child. HELLO!!!!!! Don't you see who you're putting it in front of. I guess it must be their mind is elsewhere but no excuses as far as I'm concerned.

Stay strong and let us know if you need anything.........like a lawyer.

well we had our follow up at the burn center and they were really suprised at how well it was healed she wont be able to get that area of her body exposed to the sun for at least a year... no problem there she's a fair skinned irish gal that doesnt exactly tan... but she's doing so well i'm just glad that its all over with or, at least the hard part is over
