Havent been on here for a while, havent been on the computer at much really at all. Anyways, I regeared my rear axle to 4:88s and have a retrofitted elocker pushin 35s. It was been perfect for a couple months until today. Whenever i am on the gas, i have a loud popping noise coming from the rear axle. It gets faster as the car goes faster but doesnt do it at all when i am coasting/ in neutral. Anyone have any ideas? I work at a toyota stealership so i am gonna get it on the lift tomorrow so i can see where its actually coming from.
thanks

Sounds like it could be a u-joint going bad. My driveline did that to me for a little before I figured out what was wrong. The drive shaft tube acts like an amplifier bell and you hear anything that is going bad.

If I were to guess, I would say its your rear end. Check the driveshaft, since its gotta come out anyway. Who installed the gear and locker ? I say its in the third member (just a shot in the dark).

Yea, Chevy here is probably right.
What is the frequency of the popping noise you hear. What I mean is, does it sound like is pops with every driveline rotation, or with every wheel rotation?

I want to say it is every wheel rotation. . .

sounds like you have a dead pinion/ring gear to me. dont drive on it, it will only make it worse, get it fixed as soon as possible.
i just had my gears take a shit on me over the weekend and it sounded just like what you described, no noise while coasting but a steady pop pop with every drive shaft rotation. luckily i have a warranty on the parts, though 4wp is going to try to make me pay for labor and a new master install kit.

Ring gear and pinion gear are shot, missing a couple teeth. Gears are under warranty, i am dropping the third off at the shop that did it tomorrow
Same exact thing happened to me Runnerup, gears are under warranty but i still gotta pay for the installation, which is only 75 bucks so i am not gonna make a big deal out of it

You can tell by the pattern that the setup was wrong. Even out of the gate you were fuct. Glad it didn't leave you stranded.

Yeah that is waht i am worried about. The shop is really taking no responsibility, they are saying that it is no doubt that the gears were bad. They are making me pay for the gears up front then they will send the old ones to yukon so i can get a refund. I wonder what will happen if yukon doesnt take responsibility for it? I am paying with a credit card so i can dispute it

Hopefully Yukon doesn't say they were set up wrong. I would find someone else to set the new ones up. Your guy has failed and his customer sevice sucks.
