I need a new mower this year because my other one is not only tired but also damn dangerous because the nice blade cluitch feature no longer works and I have to choke the mower to get it to stop (usually resulting in several deafening backfires.....I think it's funny, but my neighbors don't).

Anyway I've been looking at these two....

Lawnboy (10685):

Cub Cadet (CC-550SP):

Just looking for feedback on either of these if anyone owns them. I'm leaning toward the Lawnboy at the moment since the Cub Cadet is only 19" wide vs the lawnboy at 21".....I know it doesn't sound like much but over the course of doing a lawn like mine, that's alot of extra passes before I'll be finished.

I used to have an old Lawn Boy 2-stroke. Geat mower. Are they still 2-stroke?

I think LB still makes their more expensive commercial ones as 2-strokes, but the one I was looking at has a 4-stroke Tecumseh LV-195 motor in it. It is supposed to be better than the B&S motors they're putting in mowers now and fairly reliable according to the reviews I've read but there's nothing like having real feedback from current owners.

Do you have a lawn mower repair shop in town?

I would talk to them. You can get an idea as to what he is seeing come in, might possibly pick up a refurbished one that meets your needs for less $$, and you will know where to go to get parts to fix what ever you buy. I always seem to need a new pull string, of blade sharpening ect. The shop here has some pretty nice guys running it.
Of course now my landlord does all the yard work so i have it skate for now.

I was looking into the lub cadet because it's got a cool paint scheme, but for a reason that alludes me at the moment, I didn't get it. I ended up with a Toro 20073. Consumer reports gave it a best buy and overall Toro brand was a little more reliable than lawn boy. But CR seemed to like the lawn boy you mentioned. They didn't have the ratings for your particular cub cadet.

The one and only time I've used my new mower it worked fine. I was surprised that it started up on the first pull.

The Toro you got, did it come with "Personal Pace"? Aluminum deck?

Yup, personal pace but according to toro's website it's an aluminum deck. The personal pace is neat, it keeps up perfectly. I have no complaints about the mower yet.
