In a 3rd Gen 4runner, are the brake squealer tabs accessible without removing the wheel? I will be getting the tundra brake upgrade installed this coming Thursday as my brakes are just about done (as evident by the constant squealing noise)

Until then, I want to pull the tabs back to stop the squealing until they are changed out this week. I have to make a 140mile round trip tomorrow and they tend to get even louder when the brakes heat up.

Can this be done without removing the wheel? Where exactly on the caliper should i be looking for the tabs?

Any pics would be great

Thanks guys!

Just go in there with a chisel and start beating on any piece of sheet metal that doesn't look important. :hillbill:

I cant answer you specifically, but as much as I remember from several other toyota disc brakes, those tabs are on the ends of the pads and thus usually covered by the caliper frame.

Maybe just turn the stereo up for now.

yeah i'm pretty sure you are gonna have to pull the caliper to get to them

I know exactly what your talking about.
Since I just changed my pads because of this issue.
Your going to have to pull the pads to get to them.
i looked and you can only see the tab for the outer most pad, but as for the inner you have to take it out.

Not to hard, just remove the retaining clip, the two pins, then one at a time use a c-clamp and get the pad out.

fix the tabs teh way you like, reinstall and go :D

Thanks guys - looks like a pretty big project considering the time left for the current pads. I guess I will take Tankota's advice and just crank the tunes for the next 2 days until the full tundra brake swap happens

Thanks again!

That's what I did, turn up the radio, but since I don't have the cash for the tundra swap I just got new pads for the time being.
