Has anyone tryed using rattle can paint for the hood and front fenders? I want to paint mine flat black, similiar to the 70 Hemicuda Hoods (all black). I understand Duplicolor has really come a long way and the paint doesn't look half bad... Obviously depending on preparation, but looking for ideas and comments...
Thanks

If you're going for flat black you don't need anything special. I think it'll work fine if that's the look you're going for. Around here the only vehicles I see with flat black panels are ones that have been crashed and have replacement panels that haven't been painted.

The reason I am thinking of painting the front end is that I installed aftermarket glass fenders to cover my wide axle Tundra install and had the fenders painted and they are not a perfect match... also I have a small softball dent in my hood...

i like the semi-flat better...still not shiny.
easy for touch-ups

locked up,

do you have access to a DA sander + compressor? if so, consider doing the following: call your local auto paint and body places and ask them what would be the cost to paint and seal if you did all the prep work yourself. that would mean taking the DA sander to your paint and fenders, using metal and/or plastic glaze and sand to fill in any rough spots, and then turn over your truck to them. prep work is hell at body shops b/c of the labor. the painting is the easy part.

personally, rattle can jobs are ... eh.

I'm thinking it would look pretty awful if you only painted the fenders and hood. Either paint the entire thing so it's all the same (that's pretty brave on an '02 IMO). Or get the fenders repainted to match the rest of the vehicle properly.

If you just paint the hood black, your colored fenders would probably look better since they will no longer be between two factory painted areas. They will be between the factory door and a black hood, so it won't be as obvious that they are slightly off from the factory color.

Look for a thread by Reggie00 he painted his rockers with rattle can black. I would find it but I'm on the crackberry right now.

you might almost get away with painting the hood, but if I was you, I would just have the truck repainted.
