Just had our cable turned off, right in the middle of Modern Marvels Logging Tech. This is going to be tough, but it will save us over $100 a month. Although money was one reason, the other reason was that my almost 4yr old son is at that age where he needs to not watch so much TV. We still have our cable internet though. :D
I am actually kind of excited about it. Growing up we hardly had cable and April and I did not have cable till after Jack was born. I'm bummed about missing all the shows I watch on HBO and Showtime, but I'll just catch up with those later on Netflix.
Has anyone else pulled the plug on their cable?

Yeah well, at least a better typer, I type faster then I can think and so the letters just come out any way they please.
Some times I get very dislexic(sp) and you wont understand a single word I print.

 I figured that is what it was. It was more the irony of what you were saying and the word that was misspelled.

I wish I could convince the wife to. When she first moved in i had a tiny tv with rabbit ears and was perfectly content. I'd be happy without the directv and just netflix.

Justin and I pulled the plug for about 8 months once. We did the netflix thing, then switched to Blockbuster...they all suck when you really don't have anything else to watch on TV.
We ended up turning Dishnetwork back on right before the next season of LOST started...lol. It was a pain to watch it on the internet.
Good luck! Hopefully you guys can last longer than we did. LOL

I never had cable untill about a year ago, although my parents had it for a short period right before I moved out. It's inlcuded with my rent now, but when I move or get my own place, I'm thinking about not getting it. Internet is a must, but I can get by with just rabbit ears on the TV. Most shows I watch on regular TV can now be seen on the web, and about the only things I watch on cable are Discovery, National Geographic, History and sometimes TLC (when they have overhaulin on).

I was going to do that, my cable bill rose from $90/mo. to $130/mo begining in July. FYI it was for the same service. i have internet, HD programing and sports tire but no primium chanels. i and my roommate were going to switch to dish, almost...
i went to San Diego to help my brother on his new house for the last 2 weekends, boy i have had enough with his DirectTV, it was beyond horriable. he ordered the 4 receiver package, the installation guys came really fast and told my bro "you must have 4 TV's at home otherwise we won't intall the equipment". well, at that time there were only 3 TV's at home, so they walked. they came in next week after my brother bought another TV. used for 2 days, there were some problems with the receiver's harddrive, called service, was told 3 days, they came in 5. after it was fixed, the next day there was a message pop'd up on the screen saying an upgrade has be made to the software to improve the signal meter, you need to do a Point Switch test, which it didn't say how to do the test. called tech support, after on the phone for an hour, still didn't work. he was told the tech will come on saturday July 5th before 5pm. called on saturday couple times, everytime was told don't worry, someone is on the way, but no one ever came on saturday. called one last time, was told the field techs were overloaded, have to push the appointment to next thursday. WTF!!
honestly, i don't know what i'm gonna do now. cable, at least for the last decade i have had no technical issues with it and the support has always been good. no contract either. i don't want to give up these cable HD chanels because that's all i watch.

Never had cable in college. Living with my parents for a few more months right now so I've got the opportunity to watch, but once I move out, I don't really want it. I've got a decent TV, but that's for movies and games.
I'm not a huge fan of cable, a lot of money a month to sit on your ass. Then if you're paying it and not watching it, you feel just as bad. I'd rather not have it so I don't have the temptation and I save my money.
The internet is very nice to have however.
I've got bunny ears, and with broadcasts in HD now, it seems to take care of everything in terms of TV.

Man, you pulled the plug at the wrong time. Next week is the season premier of 4Runner Television. They said something about supermodels too.
I haven't paid for cable for about two years now. That's not to say I don't have cable, since the cable company never shut off service to my house when we did cancel. I would be willing to pay about $20 a month for what we get; not the $100 they charge.

If a cable company were to offer a 'pick and choose' option for say, 20, 30, and so on channels I'd be more interested. I just can't justify paying more than $40-50 a month for cable (total, not divided with roomies) with how much crap is on TV today. I don't need oxygen, MTV, or the spanish language channels. Give me a few movie channels, BBC (for Top Gear), Out Door channel, TBS, Fox, CBS, ABC, NBC, Spike, and Comedy Central and I'll be a happy guy. There's no point in paying $100+/month for, at most, the 15-20 channels that I watch.

 While watching some of the stuff saved on the DVR (I have to take it back tomorrow), I discovered that although the regular cable is shut off, I still have HBO and Showtime. :D Shhhh..... don't tell them. :tapedshut:

I know where he lives. Trust me, there's only one cable company there. :flipoff:
We have cable internet so that comes with basic cable and that's all we have. The best channel we have is discovery and all the rest are local channels and PBS. We've never really watched much TV after we got married. Usually we're on the internet or out doing something.

What? A cable monopoly, no way! :D Actually now you can also get your cable through AT&T. Yeah right! Like I can make sense of my phone bill now, I can just imagine how complicated they can make a cable bill. Charter has actually been pretty good to us, everytime they raised the rates, April would call and we would just get put back on whatever promotion they had going. It still gets expensive.
When we lived downtown SLO there was no need for cable, it wasn't till we were up at all hours of the night with a crying baby that we got cable. Local NBC and FOX were all we got with rabbit ears and they didn't have crap on at 3am. Actually it was only crap. :D I guess then we just got hooked on it.

Mrs Fuster and I are going on 6 years without TV. I stopped missing it after 3 weeks. This is not to say that I haven't watched a program on occasion; I have and do. I only recently relaxed my own resolve after I was convinced the habit was broken. If I do indulge, it is a rare exception.
