So, some of you know the whole story, but for those of you that don’t, here’s what happened. Back about 2 years ago, I switched majors and my old major did not have a language requirement. My advisor never told me about the requirement for my new major until last spring semester. I was hoping to graduate in May, so last spring semester should have been my last. I was kinda bummed out, but I figured, well not much I can do, and I’ll just finish up school working full-time and taking a night class.

So, I’ve been working all summer, dreading this Spanish II class that I’m supposed to take this fall. Well, I got a call from my mom back home, and she said the school had mailed my diploma! I was like WHAT?! So, I’ve checked my transcripts, talked to my advisor, talked to the registrar’s office, and everybody and everything says I did indeed graduate. I’m supper thrilled, but I have no clue what happened. I guess this last class fell through the cracks or something, but no complaints from me. Haha.

I’ve been going to college for 9 years now, 7 years for this degree. My goal was to put myself through college dept free, so I’ve been working off and on at it. It’s fantastic to finally be done with school, especially knowing I don’t owe anybody anything. :D

Only downside to this, is that it is really last minute. My current apartment lease ends in 3 weeks, so I’ve basically got 3 weeks to find a job, or sign for another year. Oh well, I’m done with school…woohoo!

Now maybe I can start moding my 4Runner. :D

Anybody know anybody looking for somebody with a BS in Geography with a concentration in Geographic Information Systems and an AutoCAD certificate? lol..

Anyways, just thought I'd share with you all. :hillbill:

Congrates!!!!!

BTW, a lot of college advisers miss some very important stuff. My wife's advisor told her she shouldn't take a full load of course because she came from a small town school. Guess it didn't matter to him that she was student body class president and graduated the valedictorian. :asshat:

She listened to him for the first term, which put her behind on a sequential set of classes :chair: After that she just did what she wanted and graduated in 3.5 years as summa cum laude :flipoff:

I'd still like to punch that :asshat: in the face.

Erich

My eyes!

Thanks Chris. Thanks Carl.

Being in school either as a full-time student or as a part-time student for 9 years has had its challenging moments for sure, but I figured if I did quit, I would regret it later in life. I don't regret staying in school for so long. lol.

Thanks guys.

Thanks Erich. The community college I went to was pretty good, but the school here has been a nightmare to deal with. Every semester, I would get a run-around for one thing or another. I learned to always get a second opinion and to double check everything.

That is awesome, congrats! Putting yourself through school gets harder all the time, I didn't think it was that hard when I finished up in 95, but looking at my step sons cost as a senior this year even in state school I'm not sure how I would have done it. I'm impressed, nice work!

I'll also say that as a rule, I noticed folks who where paying their own way seemed to get more out of it. There is a whole second education you got around how you did it, that has nothing to do with classes.

Yeah, definitely. My sister worked her way through school and graduated debt free, so I kinda wanted to do the same. I think there is soo much less stress knowing I don't owe anybody money. I was blessed with a really great, unique campus job, and the skills I have learned have been priceless. My boss has been super supportive of me, and always made sure I put my education first, before work. Super cool guy. But yeah, I have really had to learn how to budget properly, and even then, I think I could have done a better job at it.

That being said, there were sooo many times that I was really tempted to take out a school loan and buy a newer vehicle. It's kinda hard to impress the ladies with a 18 year old Toyota with 208k miles and a fading paint job. :hillbill: Now, I'm glad I kept it. It hasn't let me down.

Daniel, get your butt out to Oregon and work for our surveying company. Yeah, not exciting, but you can't beat union wages, benefits, and leaving work everyday at 3:00. Congratulations on the degree. Sorry I didn't mention that earlier....I'm a jerk

if intersted in moving out to CA eventually, let me know. ill refer you to some peeps i know who are 20 yr vets in planning as well as our internal HR process

Bob...that sounds fantastic. Jenn has been trying to talk me into moving out that way, and it sounds really tempting. She mentioned that you all may be looking for some help too. Sounds like a cool deal, so I'm definitely interested.

Truth be told, I don't think I could have done it debt free if it wasn't for the folks on this forum and others like it. From the get go, I knew that to save money on repairs, I needed to learn how to do my own mechanical work. If I would have had to pay a shop to do my timing belt, water pump, or knock sensor, it would have blown my budget and forced me to take some loans.

So, a huge thanks goes out to you folks in internet land for helping me make this a reality. Thanks for the patience and willingness to help somebody with as little mechanical knowledge as I've got. You all have been a huge help. Thanks folks! :hillbill:
