Ah, to make it short I love northern CA. It's close to the ocean and the mountains. I live in Sacramento and if it isn't here it's about 100 miles away, good excuse to get out you. You can go skiing and hiking in Tahoe without living in Tahoe. You can visit SF or the ocean without living in expensive areas and have to deal with traffic. Oh and we don't haveto deal with things like ice storms, rust, hurricanes, tornados, flash floods, etc. I've lived here my whole life and the only earthquake I've experinced was the simulator at Universal Studios.

Alaska. I just got back and would move there in a heartbeat if I could.
Somewhere on the interior though, not the coast. Maybe Anchorage, maybe closer to Denali though...

Difficult question.

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, so I'd love to live on Puget Sound somewhere. Possibly around Kingston, WA.

I also, as most of you know, lived in Montana for a while, and I would really like to live up near Whitefish, MT. Beautiful up there, but the winters get a touch on the long side for me.

I'd say that the Seattle area works quite well for me right now because it's close to all my friends and family, so it's a great fit.

If having a good job wasn't an issue, Justin and I would love to live in Bend, OR. It's a great little town in the central part of the state. The weather is beautiful, the people are nice and great snowboarding is only a half hour away. I'm not sure what the wheeling is like up there as we've never had the chance to check out any trails.

Since having a decent job is important, we are still here in So. Cal., and actually it's not all that bad. We live in the High Desert town of Hesperia, which luckily for us is located in close proximity to all of the things we enjoy doing. I wouldn't want to live anywhere but here if we stay in So. Cal.

I used to manage a ski resort around Lake Tahoe. I lived south of Tahoe, at around 7800 ft. I miss it, the unlimited trails, telemarking, camping, rock climbing, rock crawling, fishing. I think someday I will move the family back there.

I thoroughly enjoyed WA and OR on a road trip, Port Angeles seemed like a cool town right by Olympic National Park. Hood River and some of the ranchy areas to the south seemed really nice in OR. CO is great as well, Leadville/Crested Butte are near the top of my list. I live in tucson now, I love the desert, but would definitely like a change at some point. Fortunatley/unfortunately I have a great job here at the moment so i'm not thiking of leaving.

Honestly, having traveled all over the western half of the states, if jobs/money were no object:

1. Right where I'm at: Central Coast, CA (preferably the beach in Cayucos or Morro Bay, or rural Arroyo Grande/San Luis Obispo is really cool as well) The atmosphere is really mellow, there's a lot to do here, centrally located to many spots in CA, Big Sur coastline is less than an hour away, hard to beat the year round temperatures, wine tasting, my son and daughter are the 4th generation born here on the central coast, fresh fish

2. Waimea, Kauai Sleepy little town on the west shore, napali coast it close, mountains are close, only thing is that I think the island would start to feel small pretty quick if I wasn't able to travel to other places.

3. Not in the U.S. but close: Tofino, British Columbia (if money was no object and the wife was cool with it, this would be my number 1)

4. I really enjoyed Duluth, MN and the towns north of there on Lake Superior. I hate MN (my wife is from just south of Minneapolis/St. Paul, but I could totally see my self in Duluth. You will notice this is the only place not on the ocean, but Lake Superior seems like an ocean.

5. Haven't been to Alaska yet, but I'm positive that it would make the list.

I live in LA now. But not really - more the suburbs of LA, Santa Clarita. I like LA, but hate these suburbs. I like LA for the variety of things to do, proximity to everything, beaches, the weather (except those hot days in the Valley), and the music scene.

But overall, I like San Francisco more. So I'm headed up there in the next month or two once I land a job. I love it for the environment, the people, the art and design scene, the cultural aspects, the scenery, the public transit, I like it all. Only thing I'll miss is being so close to snowboarding - good thing Tahoe isn't that far away.

I'm a city guy.

Maybe when I'm old I'll want a rural setting, but not anytime soon. I'm definitely happy in California, wouldn't want to live in any other state. I could live internationally for a while, I'd be down for that.

Anywhere but here lol!

Its actually really tough for me to answer this question now that i have been thinking about it since the post was started.

There are a few places I would like to live.
I do have to say I am very much a city boy as I am a trail boy, but sometime I would love to live right in the heart of NYC in Manhattan, Park Avenue..

I do love the water too, so a place by the beach would be awesome!
Sun and water all the time, I could get use to that.

But as much as I love the trails, living as close to the trails as possible is where I would love to be.
I hope to eventually be out west, probably where Jenn is.
Being that close to the trails would so awesome, I would be hitting the trails every weekend.

Chuck loves San Francisco for the people. As I told my buddy who moved out there, the jokes will follow.

I like Fort Collins because it is not too big, is a college town and grants me access to all the outdoor stuff I like to do. I can also handle all of my business either on foot or with my bike, I only drive the truck to move big things and recently took my chainsaw with a 36" bar to the shop in my backpack on my bike.

I would like to live some place in the west. Probably not the southwest, it is hot down there and I am hairy. I like forests, outdoor stuff and having some access to culture or culture like things, concerts, etc. I could see myself in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado or parts of Montana. I am going to let all the rest of you have California.

I am from the Midwest. Most of the people there were fat, drunk and hungry. I really think the mindset is different in the west. I have not spend much time back east, so I won't pass judgment.

yikes, thats the last place i want to live, and not just because of the silly yankee fans.

i am so uncomfortable in nyc that i cant wait to leave it once im there. boston is definitely a larger city and all, but its a green city, that feels more like a really big town. nyc is concrete paradise, hundreds of people everywhere, and if you like nature you feel trapped unless youre in central park which is also overrun with people.

id like to go to the southwest... different wheeling terrain, lots of open space, low cost of living....

I have always wanted to live out west somewhere, Dakotas, Montana, Idaho, etc. I long for a nice quite home with acreage that I build the way I want too. I like the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, camping/hiking/backpacking, the quietness of being 20 minutes outside of town (or more). I enjoy the simple life.

Right now I live in a heavily populated burb in NJ, its ok b/c we have like everything within 20 mins of driving or less, but its crowded, noisy, polluted and overall the transplants from NYC (mostly staten island) are rude. When I say rude, I mean incredibly rude. I dunno whats thier issue is, but they just are. I liked my old house better, in the distant burbs, quite road, farm with woods, places to ride on trails.

What I really want is to move to a secluded area, nothing insanely far out but I wouldnt mind an hours drive to the store or work. I could easily work a job that pays less b/c of the lower cost of living. I figure if I work here now and save, move to where I want I can use the cash saved to fund the home I want to find/build and be one step ahead.

What I want is a brick home with tin roof, basement, pole barn. Make the home as self sufficient as possible, well water, solar power, wood stove, etc. I dont like paying for things I could have for nothing, its really my dream. Just living the simple life, call me crazy but its very enjoyable.

If we're dreaming and talking ideal . . .
100' off the side of the Hana Highway in Maui, It's a crazy twisty 2 lane road through the rainforest that has torrential waterfalls every few hundred yards, downpours nearly every hour and frequently goes down to 1 lane. Also the last place I can remember being giddy and having a heart felt smile just looking around. Driving that road, the car radio slowly went completely silent, not even static on any channel (until I turned my computer on to download some photos). Living in a wood one floor with a metal roof so I can hear the rain, solar electric, solar hot water. Selling Grapefruits and Pineapples in a roadside shack. :D

ALASKA!!!!!!!

I just visited for the first time 2 weeks ago.... It was AWESOME!

There are lots of great places in the US, and the one that tempted me the most was south of Hilo. Sure, there's always the risk that the volcano will shift directions, but it's so great there, and real estate isn't nuts yet. Should have bought 5 yrs ago when we first visited. I've only visited alaska in september (twice) and loved it, but year round seems like a heck of a lot of work.

Other great spots include fort fun, like cheese said, best place I have ever lived. Actually, now that i'm a little older and don't care about night life so much, 30 minutes west of ft collins up the poudre canyon some place would be the place for me.

Or Belize.
