Its really not hard to do at all, considering the stealership will rob you of an average from the dealerships around me for about $600 for install. If you do it yourself, remember to put the one way valve on TB hose underneath the TB. Otherwise you will get horrible surging.

And one more thing, If you arent intalling additional fuel upgrades, Connect the boost line to the Fuel pressure regulator. Itll help with the pinging a tad.

thanks. im a lil familiar with the SC after helping do a 3.4 with SC swap in a 95 3.0. ill deff be doing the work myself. it should also help that im pulling the SC off a truck then installing it on mine. i wont be doing any fuel upgrades yet, but will eventually get urd's kit with all new injectors and all that stuff. im staying away from the 7th injector.

Dont get the Kit, look for used injectors from off a supra, and find a different piggy back other than the split second one. get smt6. Or if you have that much faith in URD Ill sell you my split second box :P. That is if you putting the s/c on a 96 - 97 4Runner.

its going on my 2000. whats so bad about urd's kit? i like the fact it comes with injectors, ecu, and fuel pump. i figured it would be the best setup for it. you dont seem to like urd

Some people have good luck with the kit, Some dont. And there isnt many people on this board that are s/c'ed with the fuel upgrades. Me personally, Not one bit of luck with the URD kit. Sure the kit comes with injectors, fuel pump and ftc. But go look around on some other boards to try to find a kit that someone has removed from their truck. IMO the kit is not worth that much that URD sells it for. Even send a PM to Blink on the boards here and get his opinion and help on finding some used parts. Ill have to tell him to chime in here on this thread. Look up some of my S/C threads, and you will see what my problems were. And even then, my issues are still not resolved :(
Anyways, Its your choice in the end. Im just here for an opinion. And well, to try to help you out some, if I can.

oh i appretiate the input you have  i read that SCing an older taco or 4runner, pre 98 is tougher since the computers are diff and dont seem to adjust to the SC as well. i think i read that on gadgets site. could that be a part of your problem? i wont be running a fuel upgrade for a while but would deff like to get some input on them.

Im sure that has a lot to do with it. But there is a Difference between the Split Second FTC and the FTC-E. Pre 98's needed the FTC-E because the o2 sensor wasnt wideband. Im just having maaaaaaaad issues with the stock computer fighting the FTC-E with the fuel and timing.
Im even getting a ping where nothing really should be adjusted according to Gadget. Im sorry, When I had the S/C w/o any mods the only time Id really ping is when im in High boost with low RPM. Never once did I hear it ping between -10 - 0 inHg. And im getting lots of ping in that area. Have even tried to adjust the timing too.
Blink and I would try to tune my truck, and by the end of the night we would feel we have an alright tune and call it quits, by the end of the week my truck was back to being sluggish and the tune way out of wack.
Im starting the think I Finally fried a valve because my AFR's are boucing between 13.8ish - 15.8ish when just crusing at a steady speed, or even accelerating (not going into boost at all). And this bounces back and forth ever second litteraly. Jumping up and down, up and down.
Tomarrow the FTC is getting disconnected and possibly the injectors replaced with stock. I just cant deal with this anymore due to this being my DD. Ill let you know what happens with the AFR's when the FTC is off.

I'm weighing the SC option for my 2002 4Runner. But in reading the problems that Stevo3 is having - isn't there an issue with the '96 model year? I think TRD explicitly recommends against installing an SC on anything less than a '97 due to differences in the computer. Could that be part of the problem Stevo3 is having?

MadCityRich, for you I would strongly suggest against installing a S/C, mainly for the fact that the 01&02 4Runners have a weak planetary OD gear and are prone to failure (which Toyota still wont admit that it should be a recall).
And you would have to do a valve body upgrade so that you don't blow your trans even faster with the added power...
Just my .02
And I believe for the engine it was the 96 T100 and Taco's that it wasn't good in.

You are correct, partially. The tacomas and T100(1995-1996) with the 3.4 Toyota says they cannot be S/C due to something with the computers. BUT, the 96+ 4Runners were capable of S/C'ing.
According to Gadget, the 95-96 tacomas can be S/C IF you get the URD kit or some other fuel mods.
