Well..I've departed from Toyota TWICE now (some of you might remember from YT), each time to go back to a 4Runner. Looks like I'm doing it again.
Back in March I purchased a 2008 MINI Cooper. Love the car, its fun as hell and almost as quirky. I'm keeping it. I close escrow on my first house on Friday and I'm in the market for a bigger vehicle to haul "house stuff" around.
Sooo....I'm looking for a Taco/4R. Sub $10k range. Nothing pretty, just a beater to haul stuff.
Think the mod bug will bite again??

hey neil! welcome back! I didn't know you picked up a mini cooper.
you look into a lc as a long shot option?

The only LC that's in my price range would be an 80...probably not. I think if I were to spend more (and I might), I'd spring for an 05+ Taco. Seem to be able to pick up a decent 4x4 for $18k or so.

Since your looking for something in the 10K range, back in 05 my runner with around 76K was 10K
Maybe you can find a 99-00 for the same price?
long shot but might be possible.
And WELCOME BACK!!!!

Thanks,
I KNOW I can easily pick up a 3rd gen for $6-8k out here. No biggie. But I really want a taco!

Great to see you again! I remember when you went VW for 6 months or so. We had a mini cooper back then and loved it, wife is thinking about getting another. Welcome back, I promise not to ask about that hitch I tried to buy off you.

Born, raised and work in Sacramento. Just bought a house in Fair Oaks. It took me a couple of months to find my 4runner. I wanted a 99-00 with the 5speed and locker. I got a 99 with the 5 speed and sunroof but no locker. I'd go private seller. There are a lot of used dealers, especially in Roseville, that have a bunch but their all over priced or have high mileage. My 99 is from Sonora and had 84K on it last December. Where did you buy a house?

I wish Toyota made an EXCITING car to drive. I'd be all over it! Every Toyota I've had has been nothing but perfectly reliable..it just sucks that they don't make a neat CAR. There's the IS250, etc..but they're just so "Japanese" and lack all "soul".
On that note, my 08 MINI just got lemon lawed because the sunroof would never open when it was hot outside. Stupid, I know. The MINI forums are cluttered with complaints of breakdowns, etc.
And guess what? The car was so much fun, I re ordered a brand new 2009 MINI Cooper S w/ Nav. Just north of $30k, and I have to wait 8-12 weeks for it to arrive.
Good thing I still have the 4Runner...
(pointless rambling over)

i agree. toyota doesnt make anything that i WANT to buy. they have stuff i know i would be happy with, but nothing that makes me want to ask for paper bags at the grocery store so i could save money on toilet paper to make the car payments every month.
though i greatly disagree with the MINI decision.. hahaha. i would have bought an s2000 or even an mx5
