Ok, I bought the SS 7.2 for my 4Runner and I'm having problems installing it. The probem is the ball joint. I'm using a bottle jack to push the control arms down in order to get the lower bolt through the shock. The POS OEM ball joint however sticks far enough in toward the center of the car that it actually contacts the shock. This prevents me from pushing the arms far enough down to get the bolt through and also will interfere with the suspension as it travels anyway. Has anyone else had this? I'm just going to file the balljoint down in order to make it fit. Thoughts? This is really annoying.

Are you trying to do this by YOURSELF? Get another set of hands to help.

Have you removed the end links?

I am confused as well...
Are you having an issue getting the screw through the bottom of the strut on the lower A-Arm?

If so, then yeah you need two people to do that, heck, even me and J had issues trying to get that screw through, and both of us were standing on the dang rotor...

did you try disconnecting the bottom 4 bolts for the lower ujoint? this will allow you to lower the LCA to attach the lower shock bolt. then you can drop the ujoint back into the LCA and retorque.

Ok, my request has changed from advice to confirmation that I didn't do anything to damage the ball joint. I used a bottle jack to push the control arms down in order to get the bolt in. It wouldn't work because the tundra coils were pinched by the balljoint. So, I cut about 1/4" off the back of the balljoint in order to get the spring in and ensure that it wouldn't conflict with suspension travel.

Yeah, I did that on the second one. They're installed now. The backs though, holy cow there was a lot of rust on those topnuts. Here's to PB Blaster and vice grips.
