Hey fellas,
I'm not too happy with my CB being on the pass. side of the console (over tranny hump) since the speaker is on the bottom and all. I know I could get an ext. speaker but I'd rather not. My buddy mounted his CB to the overhead console in his suburban and I really like it up there. I was wanting to mount mine to the ceiling but I don't have a console or anything and I'm trying not to put holes in the headliner or ceiling. I've been trying to think of a way to use the front rearview mirror mount, the domelight mount, and maybe the sunvisor mounts to hold it up. does anyone have any ideas? thanks

I've seen a mount made that sandwiched between the rearview mirror mount and the headliner, extending the CB to the rear of the mirror mount. I can't remember who was selling them, but it shouldn't be hard to make one and run the wires.

my only issue with that is that its going to need to be some thick metal + strong screws to hold that thing steady if the only attachment point is the rearview mirror. to me it'd act like a diving board and i can see my cb bouncing on that type of mount. thanks for the info though, ill look into it

it depends on how heavy your CB is. if you have or know someone with a welder, you could add a thin verticle rib to it to prevent the bounce, in the hardware dept, home depot sells 2"x1/8" shallow channel that should be strong enough for the biggest CBs.

My CB days are over. I used to run big equipment and amplifiers :gay:. I now run a weaky squeaky radio shack little thing, and yes it works fine. I use the rearview mirror for mounting. I used a piece of sheet metal and put the same hole pattern as the mirror, in it. I then bolted the stock CB mount to it. I then sandwiched the sheet metal between the mirror mount and roof I ran the wires over the headliner and down the pillar. This works great, no shake and out of the way. I feel like a real trucker. :shake:. I wouldn't stick a full chassis radio up there.

you got a pic of this? how thick metal did you use? i also have a small bumper (the mirror mount is slightly recessed in the headliner) that i'd like to be able to bend the metal over, though its not the end of the world if i just smash the headliner down at that bump...

I used 16ga sheet. Keep in mind, mine is an 86 runner, and I am more into function than looks.

thanks for the pic. it looks like the rear of the radio is helping to support itself on the rearview mirror, is that correct? if so, then thats why it doesnt bounce around. i was hoping to get the radio mount essentially flat on the headliner. thanks for the info though, i like to see everyone elses mounts

The radio actually doesn't touch the rear, but it is a tight fit.

thanks, ill see what i can do. i might make a combination of things that have been suggested here and do like what you have, but in order to keep it up against the headliner, maybe weld two vertical ribs along the sides. i appreciate the info
not sure if your set on putting it up there, but here another option:

or you can do what this guy did:

Here are a few pictures of how mine is mounted. as i said in the pm, the cabin light is a great entry point and require only 2 half inch slits

That mounting spot makes absolutely no sense to me.

well that sucks cuz it makes perfect sense to me!
thanks for the replies guys, im just waiting for some good weather to actually go out and pull my existing wiring and start rerouting it
IMO, it would be hard to see, change channels, squealch, volume etc, but if it works for ya  DO IT. lol

I plan on putting mine more forward along the lines of 4runnerchevy. I don't have a sunroof to deal with so I can put it more conveniently up front. Where it is right now doesn't make much sense to me so I'm trying to get it up and out of the way.
I am working on running two aluminum straps from the rearview mirror mount to the dome light (on the visible side of the headliner) but if I don't like the way that looks, I might suck it up and drill into the first layer of metal above the headliner with some very shallow sheet-metal screws. is anyone aware of any wiring up there? Without having looked myself, I feel like the wiring for the dome light could be running up to the rearview mirror (non-power mirror, no lights) location and then across to the A-pillar.
how annoying is it to remove the headliner in a extended cab?
