Chris, saw these Toyota vans all over Canada. This is not your father's Oldsmobile, this is a "Toyota Master Ace Surf, Super Touring" if you can read those badges on the back. Now that's a name! Don't overlook the "Skylite Roof" with hinged openings!

I photographed this next vehicle, then realized they were about as common in Canada as a Honda Civic in the U.S. 4WD diesel "Mitsubishi Star Wagon Delica Turbo D". Toyota may have the "Skylite Roof," but Mitsu theirs imprinted with the name "Crystal Lite Roof"

Vacation was awesome. I had considered moving to Canada, then I saw the Master Ace Surf Super Touring van and knew I had to move up there... :)

Here are some teaser pics.

Ken, welcome back and thanks for reminding me how bland our American version of vehicles are.

Those Mitsu Delicas are badass and most are diesels and easily changed over to dual fuel, bio and regular diesel.

The windows in the Mastersurfs are badass, it would probably be easier to go up there and cut a roof off and do a roof swap than it would to import one.

By the way, I've got a guy searching junkyards in Okinawa for one of these: (I'll let you figure out what it is I'm after in the pic)

I also added a Marlin Crawler shift knob to my van for the transfercase shifter. :D I should have grabbed another one for the tranny shifter. People will really look confused when they see it then.

 I was going to throw one from a Tercel in there till I found that one. I'll wait and see if he finds one.

Also something cool about the unAmerican ones, the 4wd's with the auto tranny has the two speed transfercase. The american auto tranny 4wd's just have a push button 4hi (no 4lo). That was a big reason for me wanting the 5spd 4wd, got to have that 4lo.

Those pop up skylights are awesome. :D

Man that thing is tricked out but I think it needs some bigger mud flaps and curb feelers. I should dig up the pictures I took in New Zealand.

Norcal trip? Are you driving up? I still have that Wilson whip for you. Pismo doesn't look good for me this year. Marin is 3 months pregnant and I have a 200 mile bike ride that Saturday :hijack off:

Hi Bob! We did not do any fishing this year. There was a red tide at the beginning of the trip and we had no phone or email access to find out if it had passed. We spent a lot of time in protected marine parks towards the end of the trip, where you are not allowed to fish anyway. :(

The boat cost less than many SUVs. It took a lot of work to get it to the point it's at today though. Did I ever show you a picture of the galley? (http://home.off-road.com/~kemanuel/WA/boat_salon.jpg) The original owner had put in wall-to-wall carpet, which my uncle ripped out, refinished the floors and added seven layers of varnish. They are beautiful now. Lots of work though.

I saw a van similar to this just a couple minutes ago, but it was dark blue. I just about did a U-turn to chase it down and get some pics :P

Paddlen,

Your trip looks and sounds amazing. Your galley pic is awesome!

I found some more van porn for Chris. The Toyota Lite Ace Camp Mate 4WD.

http://oldconceptcars.com/wp-content/uploads/toyota_camp_mate_1.jpeg

It was a Toyota concept vehicle. Clearly it didn't make it to market or Ultimateyota Corp LLP would have one.

That's cool looking! It would be awesome for camping. Seems like it would be fairly capable....for being a camper

Wow, that looks pretty cool.

Toyota used to offer, or at least considered, so much.
