I searched around and found comments on this subject but not it's own thread. This way if someone types in "bedliner" in the search, this thread should pop up.
I'm planning on doing bedliner for the rocker panels of my 4runner and van. I am thinking of doing black roll on and using a brand that I can add the UV protectant to so that it will hold up better to sunlight.

Post your pics, comments, observations, etc... here. How it has held up, likes/dislikes, etc... Please be sure to include the brand, how it was prepped, etc... This includes any body panels, truck beds, etc.. and includes brands where you payed to have it done (rhino liner, etc..).

Here are some links to some of the different DIY brands and professional brands:

I talked with him not too long after he did it, from what I gathered the prep was "so-so" and no UV protectant was used. Hopefully he'll post up here with the brand/prep/etc...

Herculiner.

It rolls on very nice with the included roller.

I did not use the UV protection and I only did one coat. It lasted for about two years (of nasty winters too!)

The herculiner instructions say to use two coats so I would definitely do that! I think it would have held up a lot better that way. I am about to re-paint my truck and I will redo the herculiner.

^^Any pics?

Thanks for the info, definately sounds like 2 coats are in order.

for prep, tape it all off, knock the paint down with 80 grit, clean it all with denatured alcohol, hit it with a tack cloth, again with the denatured, and you should be ready to go.

Ameraguard sprayed bedliner on rockers, wheel wells, sliders with steps. Holding up very well. No complaints so far...

Very nice!

For those who want the link: Ameraguard (http://www.ameraguard.com/amera/index.php)

One thing I noticed on their How We Do It page (http://www.ameraguard.com/amera/how_we_do_it.php).

3. A special “wire cutting” tape is applied to all edges where the liner will be trimmed.

10. The edge wires are pulled up through the coating to produce clean edges.

This is something I would like to try to find. I always wondered how you could pull the tape up and leave such a nice edge.

Found some, it's not cheap but not too bad. Wire Tape (http://www.tcpglobal.com/detailsupplydepot/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=DOM+WBWT) Sounds like you pull it at about 45degrees into the bedliner and that's how the pros get that nice angled edge.

hrm never heard of the tape. i just pull the tape while the last coat is still wet.

and use the 3m green tape!

remember, youre good results are about 75% prep work... the more prep, the happier you will be. my general rule, ill spend about 30 hours prepping a 1square foot surface for about 20 minutes of actually spraying paint. this is for automotive quality or mirror finish quality paints, for you prep is less so, but you still want clean lines and such.

One caution for the wire masking tape: a small amount of tape can be left behind under the sprayed surface after pulling wire. Pulling at a direct 90 degree will lessen the chance of this. Any tape left behind is difficult to remove requiring surgeon-like razorblade skills against the body.

I used the duplicolor one from Walmart. Came in a kit, tray, roller, brush.
I pretty much wire wheeled the area and used a good primer and alcohol.
Just used blue 3m tape and pulled after i applied the liner after it tacked up.
If you need some of the wire tape, i might be able to get some for you from my buddy that owns the LineX shop in town.

That one little can did the 4Runner and i had plenty left over for probably 1 or 2 more.

It has held up pretty good. I dont use kid gloves when i do use the 4Runner.

Thanks Reggie, so it sounds like the blue tape will work pretty good, but I may want to try the wire tape, just for poop and giggles.

How has the color held up on yours, has it faded much?
