Where's the Fort Collins crew? If anyone's up for a drink, let me know. I'll be up here Monday, Tuesday and driving back Wednesday morning or afternoon. Oh yeah, the rental place gave me an '08 4runner 4wd SR5 . . . :burnout:

I'm upset it has running boards and only 1 12V outlet in the front. I like the seats that fold down from the sides in the rear (don't really limit visibility). The climate controls are goofy. It can take highway off-ramps faster than my rig though, and it was fun trying to slide the rear until the traction control light came on.

I'm thinking thats not the kind of report you want though. If I can find a good spot, I'll tell you how it flies . . . .

hahaha actually that was exactly what i was looking for, a REAL report on the vehicle. if you think the seats are nice, i probably will too.

but yes we would all like to know how it flies....
v6 or v8?

Come on now, that is pretty lame dude.

I am up here, I may even jump start the crawler to bring it out.

Bobby lives across the parking lot from me. Not sure about my schedule tomorrow, but if plans are being made, post up and let me know. What brings you to town?

I'm in town on business, gotta fix a car and write a report on it, but with any luck I'll find something stupid and have everything done shortly after noon.

I was looking around the web a bit and it looks like there are a few trails just west of town. The rental has running boards and I'm not really looking to trash them, but it does have 4low. Also was interested in picking your brain a bit on what angle you're going with on your thesis, IIRC it had an interesting premise . . .

I'm probably going to be heading back down to Denver in the late morning with a quick stop down in Aurora before I gotta catch my flight to Vegas in the evening, so Wednesday's kinda busy - I might be able to skip the Aurora visit, but I still gotta be at DEN by 5pm. Feel like an early morning run? I didn't get the extra insurance, so that probably limits things a bit.

I'm down, PM sent

on the trail descript for Moody and Kelly Flats it doesn't sound too bad and says the major obstacles have a bypass if it looks hairy anyway (remember: running boards and open/open diffs)

Sevenmile sounds good too, but might have some deep mud according to the report. How's the weather been the last 2 weeks?

I have school obligations tomorrow, sorry I missed tonight.

If you meet up with Bobby, give me a shout, we can see eachother's trucks in the parking lot.

Don't worry Blake.

It's a shame we didn't get a chance to take out the Toys, but middle of the week with no real notice - I kinda expected that. I did get to meet Bobby before he had to take off for work in the afternoon, which worked out nice since I had just gotten back cell phone service.

I also got to take out the rental on a easy/moderate trail called Old Flower and went over the first obstacle on Kelly Flats - I gotta say, both had some great views and scenery along the way. It's too bad I didn't get more time to explore . . . maybe I'll bounce back out to the west sometime . . .

Here are some pics from my Old Flower trail run. I didn't bother airing down and the trail wasn't too bad either - not car territory though. There were a few loose dirt/stone hill climbs and I'm glad the mud pits were all dry. If any of the mud pits were full, I would have turned around - wheeling alone, no recovery gear (didn't even have a knife, just my carry-on luggae full of business casual), no cell reception, no one knew where I was - thus the caution.

saw this fence on the way to the trailhead - someone likes to ski

gotta love wooded trails . . .

. . . with stands of Birch treeshttp://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk171/batardsalamano/9-08%20Fort%20Collins/100_1243.jpg

an abandoned cabin along the way - kinda falling apart with a whole bunch of shot shells and bullet casings on the ground around it

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk171/batardsalamano/9-08%20Fort%20Collins/100_1259.jpg

I like signs like this - this one is at the bottom of Kelly Flats, responsible wheelers keeping trails open
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk171/batardsalamano/9-08%20Fort%20Collins/100_1263.jpg

first obstacle on Kelly Flats - about 100' into the trail. I got up over it and turned around because I needed to start heading down to the airport
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk171/batardsalamano/9-08%20Fort%20Collins/100_1264.jpg

I think I popped its cherry, this is the only damage to the entire thing (minor dent and scrapes) - back at the hotel it was parked next to a Highlander and I realized they both had the same ground clearance (at least with the running boards)
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk171/batardsalamano/9-08%20Fort%20Collins/100_1265.jpg

of course, we need the obligatory rental car poser pic
