So I've been huntin for a motorcycle for the past month or so with no real luck. Given my price range, mileage requirements, etc, it's hard to find one for me. I'm looking for a standard cruiser type (shadow, vulcan, v-star, intruder, etc) I do have a couple questions though:

1) what do yall consider high mileage on a bike? ive been limiting my search parameters as: mid 90's or newer (about 94 or newer), under 20k miles (pref. under 15k miles) and price MUST be $2200 or lower. I also want engine size at least 600. however, I've found within my searches several bikes that fit the bill but with 20-30k miles on them. i know it depends on maint etc, but what do yall think about mileage for a standard type bike?

2) i went to check out a 2002 Honda Shadow 750 ACE today that the guy was giving me a good deal on...$2200 down from the $2750 he listed for. its all well below blue book and it has 12.5k miles on it. i went to test it out and found that as a result of it being dropped by its grandpa owner (while standing still), the right side fork shock was all dented up. i suspect this is the cause of the fork being out of alignment. i had to turn the handlebars about 5* to the left to keep the wheel straight. how big of a deal is it to replace that shock or replace the whole fork? i'd like to get it done by Honda if I got it so how much do you think that'd cost? i cant obviously make some calls tomorrow...

thanks guys!

also what do yall think of a 94 suzuki intruder 800 in what looks like excellent cosmetic condition and apparently excellent mechanical condition (without having seen it myself)? it has 19.5k miles on it (thats the part that gets me) but i may be able to get the guy down to $2200. it has windshield, saddlebags, two helmets, etc. again, the only thing that gets me is its mileage...

my '79 Suzuki GS850 has 65,000 miles on it and starts on the first kick (when I don't use the electric starter). Mileage probably isn't much of a thing, unless you're looking at a crotch rocket or sport bike.

i had an 84 honda 700 nighthawk w/80K. only replaced fluids & tires, 1 clutch.
crashed it 2X (hard and correctly repaired) and sold it in 2005 for essentially what i paid in 86.

its hard to say what others do for maint, but ive always had good luck w/hondas (regardless of the PO)

lo miles is also not a great indicator, as you dont know how it was driven.

as for the shadow, get a repair quote and bargain down that cost.

if you havent spent time on a cruiser, id try to find something that is easy on the 'seat' :D
