I love this stuff. Here are a few pics from the races/airshow. These photos have been automatically sized down by UY, and have lost some of their clarity. The rest of my pics can be seen here http://flickr.com/photos/everydaytuesday/. Click the 'all sizes' button to view them in their intended size and clarity. More to come this weekend. Enjoy!

September Fury, cutting it a little too close for comfort.

Thanks! Whoops, I probably should have mentioned that there is an airshow at the races, too... Fixed.

 I knew it wasn't in the race and was probably part of an airshow. Was it doing a slow pass or something? Just wondering how you got such a good pic of it? Very nice!

Yeah, it was doing touch-and-gos. I just happened to catch it with its wheels up. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the actual demonstration. Just its arrival. I'm hoping to get some better pics of it on Sunday during the demo.

It's a sweet shot, totally looks like you were in another plane flying next to it.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the shots from the weekend. :D

chicken,

great pics, i love air shows---theyre so bad ass. man, i thought i knew my aircraft, but ive never heard or seen a F7F. and its cool to see the YAK3.

so is the sea fury just as capable of a racer as the P51s? seems like there are a lot of sea furys

Thanks for the kind words, Chris. I really appreciate it. I figured if there is a group of people who can appreciate incredible horse power being generated by ridiculously modified engines, this is the place!

Thanks, Bob. The F7F is very rare. It's always a crowd favorite. The guy who owns it, also owns two Sea Furys (September Pops and September Fury). Talk about deep pockets!

As far as the speed capabilities between the two planes, it really comes down to engine mods, and know-how. A lot of the mods done to these engines are kept secret. That's why there is such a wide range of top speeds between similar aircraft. Some mustangs top out in the 300s, and some go well over 500mph.

The current speed record at Reno is held by a V-12 equipped Mustang (Dago Red). But with the right mods, the radial engine in the Sea Furys can produce just as much speed. The Sea Fury pictured at the top of this page is probably the favorite to win, this year. That thing is incredible, and the pilot is a mad man.

Thanks, Daniel. Yeah, it really is a fun event. Lots of stuff to see. Today was the final race. 1st and 2nd place went to Mustangs. Looks like the V-12s owned the radials, this year.
;)

I put a few more pics from today on my page. Nothing I'm really happy with, though. Time to upgrade to L-series lenses, I suppose.
