I have had a number of electric buggies over the years...Tamiyas mostly.

I just picked this Associated RC10GT off e-bay a few days ago. I am still trying to get used to how touchy the motor is. It is running rich now, so I need to learn how to tune it right.....it is super fast campared to anything I have ever owned!! It will be fun in the desert at camp.

The guys at one forum I'm on are way into RC rock crawlers. I think one guy is even sponsored. They make custom cages and machine suspension components for them. It's a little over the top for me and I don't want to play with them. I can't afford another habit.

My current collection:

Top row, left to right: Traxxas T-Maxx standard width rolling chassis (mainly just a parts truck these days, will probably cannibalize the front diff and shafts), Traxxas SportMaxx, Traxxas E-Maxx. And at the bottom is my new-to-me Team Associated T4 (first foray into electric 1/10th scale trucks).

Gotta love that E-maxx flexy soft stock suspension. Being kind of portly compared to the Sportmaxx, I'm planning on fabbing some custom 1.5x length a-arms and drive shafts and turning it into a double-spooled low-geared crawler with some nice oversized tires. I do love the low-end torque of the electrics, but the weight and lack of real top-end make it much slower than the comparable Nitro trucks. It's already set up for 4-wheel steering and of course has 4-wheel drive, so it'll be fun.

I've kept this Sportmaxx mainly stock except for bowtie tires for the track, and a 2-speed T-maxx transmission with reverse. Suspension is dialed at the lowest setting, and has aluminum front and rear ramp skidplates. Unfortunately, I think I blew out the transmission last time I raced. I might go back to the trusty single-speed since the track I've raced on doesn't really have enough room to hit 2nd gear, but I love doing 40+mph runs in parks too so I can't decide... Hope to upgrade to a big-block engine someday, maybe the Traxxas 3.3 since it's a direct bolt-in.

So after completely balding my rear tires learning to drive this fast nitro car, I found a new set on CL.....

RC cars are something I've always thought about getting in to, but I think I would get too addicted. I have way too many projects to take up time and money already.

I would love to get on of those really old Tamiya Bruisers toys though, they are scale models of the first gen Toyota 4x4 pickups. Really expensive if you can even find one though.

Thats a pretty cool crawler Mark. Now you just need to find a gold 4runner body to stick on top of that. Interesting cantilever suspension there. You definitely need to bring that next time we go wheeling.

Nice buggy there freefallmarine. One thing about it though, does that cylinder head drag on the ground if you roll the car. I'd be afraid of flipping the thing and busting cooling fins.

Tank, the cooling heads, always get scratched when im on my lid. But ive never had any fins break. Eventually itll turn silver cause the anodizing rubs off.
