Well, not the trainwreck I thought it was going to be. :D

It was interesting, I listened to the first half on the radio and watched the second half. They come across quite different when you just listen to them and can't see their expressions, body movements, etc...

"nucular"!

Nah, both were well containered. Palin sounded like she'd been drilled more and kept going away from the question at hand but she held on better than I'd have expected. Biden's an old hat. Eh.

like hes been to a diner or home depot!!!! the audacity of this ruling class of douchebags that they think they can fool us into believing that they are just like us .... lets face it the only reason someone like biden would even set foot in a home depot is to pick up a non decided voter(aka STUPID F@#K) who should have to take an IQ test before he gets to vote.... oh and did i metion that he should also show proof of citizenship and a photo id

in all honesty, of all the 4 candidates, i like biden the best, then mccain, and then palin and obama i wouldnt vote for at all if they both weren't part of their respective packages.

i still do NOT get this whole obama-mania thing. at all.

Better than expected from Palin (the bar was pretty low), but still nowhere near VP material that I'd want us representing the US on the world stage. I think that's where people are forgetting why you don't just vote soccer moms into the Whitehouse. IMHO the debate was solid on both sides.

After listening to the debate, I was thinkin' the same thing. I thought he sounded very professional, and he actually *answered* some questions that Obama just danced around for 9 minutes; specifically the "what would you give up to fund the bailout" question from both debates. (McCain danced, and Palin said we wouldn't have to give up anything to come up with near a trillion bucks...WTF?)

Ok, gotta stop myself here. I just said a trillion dollars, like it didn't mean nuthin'. I always thought that number was reserved for the national deficit and nothing else would *ever* use that number. I just scared the crap out of myself. :tapedshut: How in HELL did we get to thinking of those kind of numbers as something you really deal with?

I have yet to see/hear the debate, but I thought I'd comment.

Granted, I do agree that competence, education, and leadership are all traits necessary to any political figure. However, I think part of the disillusion that I personally have, is from politicians not being able to relate to my life, or your life.

Please don't take this out of context, I'm not saying that we should run out and find soccer moms or joe six-pack's. What I am saying is that Palin looks attractive to many as someone who can relate closer to people than most (in more than one way ;) ) Similar to Obama and relating to minorities.

At this point, either party will screw us all. So long as I can 'cling to my guns', freedom of speech, and not give half my income away, I'll not go completely insane!

I can tell you exactly how...

I thought Palin did better than expected. But that's not hard when the bar is set 47 feet below the ground. She held her own style-wise. But Biden blew her away on substance.

She did better than expected because the questions asked weren't as pointed as the Couric questions. The questions last night allowed a more general response, so that's what exactly what Palin did - kept general/to her scripted answers, not too many specifics. That is, when she bothered to answer the question asked.

Biden rambled a little bit, but kept it on topic. I thought he played it safe - didn't get too passionate, but that worked out well for him I guess.

not elect soccermoms!!!???? ok lets just keep electing the same old political wankers that have totally screwed the country for the last few decades. the whole problem is that we now have this ruling class. the founders of our country intended that your representatives would be normal people with normal jobs that they would go back to after their short term in office. Now we have this entire group of ruling families that have never held a real job in their entire lives. Biden has spent 35 years in the senate and the country has been on the decline the whole time!!!! lets get rid of the bums and try some soccermoms how much worse can they be?

After that I'm afraid you might not have a country left to complain about.

i live in southern calimexico i already dont have a country anymore! i thought Biden did very well i thought he bumbled a couple of times but who the hell wouldn't, so did she. we have enough theoretical fixes for things in this country that fall flat on their ass when they are put into policy. I also think that someone who has been living on the public dole and hasn't sweat and bleed for their money might not be completely objective. not to take a shot at you but, aren't you a Canadian? why is it so important to you guys? i know that sounds crappy but i'm just curious

Nope, I'm an American who married a Canadian so my vote does count.

Canadians are always keeping an eye on what's going on south of us. The US is Canada's largest trading partner. The economy up here relies on the US economy for export.
Not only cars and other manufactured goods, but also oil and other resources. Those resources make the Nafta so valuable for the US.

Do I dare ask the question...

what happens if this kind of thinking takes stronger roots in our society?

What happens that anyone having an opposing view or negative view of Obama has their life put in danger by groups like these? Let's be honest, do you think those people would be completely OK if I told them that I don't like Obama in the least bit. That I think he's far to liberal/socialist?

He may be a good guy, but the supporters that I have met in person tend to not take kindly to the fact that I don't like him...

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
"For the traitor appears not a traitor he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear."
