As stated, I've lost a majority of the pedal pressure in my 2000 4Runner. MY first thought was that my lines needed to be bled, which I did yesterday to no avail.
Points to note:
1. Pumping the pedal seems to bring pressure back.
2. I noticed the problem began immediately after I adjusted my drums.
yesterday, I pulled the drums off to inspect visually....no obvious problems.
3. Brake boosters are expensive, so I hope that's not the problem.

Any thoughts?

I'm gonna bet your drums are out of adjustment. I had the same thing happen to me when I replaced my shoes, pedal would almost go to the floor before any breaking began.

Pull the drums off and turn the adjuster 5 or 6 times then replace the drum and spin it. You want the shoes to just barely touch/drag on the drum.

you dont need to take the drums off, there is a rubber plug just under the brake line connector, remove that, turn the adjuster up (insert flatblade screw driver on the gear, push down on the handle causing the tip to go up.)

I'm sure your drums are still not adjusted properly, have another go as others have suggested.

Brakes shoes should be literally like 1-2mm away from the drum, almost touching is more like it. I checked mine on my T100 with a tooth pick, if it didnt fit then it was spot on adjusted.

your 3rd gen has an additional thing that needs to be bled which causes alot of folks problems with bleeding. the initials are at the tip of my tongue... but its escaping me right now. someone wanna chime in?

LSPV? If that's what you're thinking Bob, you are right. The acronym is condensed for Load Sensing Proportioning Valve. I forget the order to blees each caliper/cylinder and LSPV, but it can be easily searched to find out. I'd do another adjustment like the others' suggested and be sure to bleed the brakes in the prescribed order using the proper method. Do this and I'd say your brake pedal will be as hard as......oh never mind. I'm really too old to act this puerile :flipoff:

A 4runner only has a LSPV if it doesn't have ABS.

Sounds good. I'll adjust and bleed once again and report my results.
Thanks, gentlemen.
