How'd you like that title? It's all about the search  On that subject if this is a total duplicate that I missed I apologize.

A great thank-you to PhilC64 at the Blue FJC forum. I just did this ‘valve isolation’ trick and it made a real difference! Make no mistake, the 4.0L is a loud (in a mechanical sense) engine. This mod helped mine though.

The 1st pic is for general orientation. The only things you need are: A couple of o-rings, some double-sided sticky foam tape and a dab of the weak threadlock adhesive. I used a dab of silicone sealant.

Next is the valve removed. It’s a single bolt that uses a 10mm socket and a short extension. Use a small dab of threadlock as you won't be tightening the bolt as much (to avoid crushing the o-ring and defeating the purpose of the o-rings).

Hope this helps you too…

Nice write up. What does that valve do?

It's a VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve) for the vapor purge system.

Oh man, now I have to go see if I have a "Tick Tic Tap" on my wife's tacoma. I think we have more of a "Tap Tic Tap Tick" though.

Seriously though I'm going to check it out. Thanks!
