Do any of you guys do any maintenance on your sunroofs? I know there are drain tubes and all but have never checked them because I haven't had any problems. On a trail run this last weekend we encountered a lot of dust and I noticed that the tracks and a couple pivot points are covered in dust. It looks to be something that needs more than a wiping and maybe a little scrub to get it all clean.
I was just wondering if anyone has any pointers or suggestions on what type of cleaner to use, or not to use, and if I should be lubing anything afterwards.

silicone spray lube works good on the pivot points and a dry graphite lube on any sliding surfaces . . . you don't want to use anything that will attract and collect dirt or dust down the road

My tracks are clean but all the greased points are all furry with dust and dirt. Come to think of it our Subaru is in the same state.
I think I'll wipe everything with simple green and spray some lube. Can I pout water in the tracks to purge the drain tube(s)? Maybe some warm water with simple green or something?

that will work with the drain tubes.

If you have compressed air, then an air gun would work best for cleaning the drain tubes.

I guess I have to look up in there better. I didn't think there would be definate openings to the tubes. If so I'll pump a bunch of air in there. No telling how much stuff accumulates.
Thanks for the advice.

the front drain tube you should be able to see at the front corners, the rears you will probably have to find where they dump under the vehicle to clear with compressed air

Be careful with the compressed air, my '94 had steel tubes for the first 3", then plastic line the rest of the way. If you blow the plastic line off you might have to pull the headliner to fix it.
I used to turn the hose on slowly and let the water run down each of the four tubes to make sure they stayed clean and were not clogged.

Damn, and I wanted to shoot all kinds of air and water out of them. I guess I'll take it easy because the last thing I want to do is pull my headliner.

The thought of brake cleaner entered my mind. I thought of how cool it would be to find out where the tubes exit by means of shooting flame.
