there is truly something for everyone on this trip hardcore crawlers and mall bombers will have a great time. once again everyone is welcome kids, wives, mistresses, trailer queens, and daily grocery getters (must be 4wd to go on an organized runs)this is a event run by the San Diego 4 wheelers there is a huge raffle (i got my winch form that raffle)and some minimum requirements and also an entry fee. pay it, it goes to fund lawyers that keep our trails open. There is a list of required equipment on the website. see you there

^^ Haha yes, very benevolent with other peoples money.

I'm really gonna try to make this one. I've never actually been to a Superstition rally before. It seems like whenever this comes around I always have my truck torn apart for some reason. I swear I'm not taking anything apart this time. (yea right)

There's some pretty insane trails out there. It'll will be cool to have another old truck out playing.

RobG
11-12-2008, 10:25 PM
I'm going to try to make this, have never been to superstition yet or to an organized event like this. If I do it will be me and my 12 year old daughter.

A few questions:
So do you you guys camp as a group in the main area?
How cold can it get that time of year?
Looks like you sign up for the runs when you get there, do the more popular trails fill up fast?
Thinking of signing up for Black Cat, is that too easy? they make it sound easy but give it a 4?
What run would you guys recommend, only thing I should be missing by then is low transfer case gearing?

Just need to get a CB installed.

Rob

Tankota
11-12-2008, 10:32 PM
wow, there might be a couple old rigs this time. ^^I really like your '83.

Hopefully by then I will have chebby rears and finally some decent armor. I wont have to slid on my doors anymore.

That would be awesome mark. I've never met your little guy before.

wifesaysimadumbass

This is a great place to meat people and put faces to screen names. I'm sure you'll find an open seat, but I know there will some of our group going on the milder runs too. These will push your driving skill and your trucks capabilities.

here's the list of requirements for the organized runs

Consumption of alcoholic beverages on the trail is illegal, dangerous, and strictly prohibited. Anyone violating this policy or any illegal activity will be barred from all club activities.

All vehicles must be street legal and maintained to conform to highway safety standards, as well as meet the minimum requirements listed below. Have the items ready to display at inspection.

Guests on Green runs must have all items marked with an *asterisk. Guests on Red, Double Red, or Black runs must have all items.

Members are required to have all items.

*Roll bar or full cage or factory hard top.
*Functioning parking brake or Mico lock.
Tow strap or rope. No chains or straps with hooks. Recommend rated at 2 times vehicle weight.
*First aid kit (what do you want when you are hurt?). It should be mounted/stored in an easily found and accessible location, so that someone not familiar with your vehicle could find it in a hurry.
*Jack capable of lifting the vehicle and a tool capable of removing lug nuts (don't forget your wheel locks).
*Spare tire equal to or within 3 inches (measured at the outside diameter) of existing tires on the vehicle; must be an appropriate off road type tread. No temporary spares.
*Fire extinguisher with gauge indicating good, appropriately stored (not a missile hazard). Like the first aid kit, someone not familiar with your vehicle should be able to quickly find and access it.
*Seat belts for driver and all passengers.
*Antennas must not exceed 4'6" (54") in length except when longer antennas/whip are required by certain OHV areas.
*Adequate attachment points front and rear, i.e., tow hooks, receiver, etc. Tow balls are generally rated for only 2,000 pounds, and that is when hooked to a trailer. They can come off with devastating results and are not recommended. Instead, for SUV's without a good tow hook attachment point, use the largest shackle or clevis (generally 1") which will fit in the tow ball hole on your stock bumper.
*Battery hold downs; no bungee cords.
Functional 40 Channel CB radio. Handheld (walkie-talkie) types are acceptable but not recommended.

Dang, why does this event have to take place when I have so many other things going on? I am supposed to be haging out with the parents for New Year's at Superstition, running the Mojave trail the weekend of the 9th and trying to buy a house all in January. Maybe I can make it out for a day run only and leave the Dober's behind. Do you know what trails you are planning on running on Sunday? Maybe something 4 or 4+ (hint, hint)

wifesaysimadumbass
12-27-2008, 01:57 PM

My christmas tree is drying out on the porch so it'll be good and ready for this event. Looks like 2 of my friends will each be bringing their vehicles out. One will go with the easiest group if he even decides to wheel his FJ and I'm not sure what group my friend with the GMC will go with.

DEATHRUNNER
01-04-2009, 06:41 PM
I still have the Deathrunner. Haven't done too much to it. But I did get custom front and rear swaybars and disconnects so it would be safer on the road. I just had all the brakes done, including replacing the allpro parking brake with original components. Now I have crazy vibrations when I get up to 60-65 , especially if I coast. I think it is from that damn disc being unbalanced. Gotta get that fixed this week. Any ideas what it destroyed?

wifesaysimadumbass
01-04-2009, 09:46 PM
sounds like a driveshaft problem if not then you may have a output bearing problem

DEATHRUNNER
01-05-2009, 09:08 AM
That's kinda what I was thinking. I'm going to get my driveshaft balanced before Superstition. I figure I'll bring the truck down and if it is the output bearing they will let me know. Maybe it's time for that 4.7 tcase I've been dreaming of.

Tankota
01-05-2009, 01:16 PM
Hey seth, my parking brake chucked its bolts a few times before I got longer bolts and put nuts on the back side. Check and make sure yours all there. If you wanna build a 4.7 case let me know. I did mine not too long ago.

I'll run it E to W again if need be. I'd like to get as many of us on the same trail if we could. I'm guessing Black Sheep, Fartruck, and Tankota will be rolling the Black Diamond runs. Yes, we ran Tilted Table E-W. I am not sure what I am running yet. If my wife and kids come I will do a mellow run like Lost Dutchman...Chris you should probably do that run with no sliders. If it is just Makenna, then I may do TT W-E or maybe Blackcat.

andy we can try TT W-E this time since you did the other one last yr.

Absolutely. I ran that one two years ago but wouldn't mind running it again.

Does anyone know if they actually check for a locker if their trail rating REQUIRES it?

Hey Pat........Just bring some Strawberry Ale for Mikey and he can drink it while he puts on his skirt and tiara. Too old my a$$

Doin good. We have a 20 mos old baby girl so I haven't seen my buzz-box in quite some time. My next project is a swing-away tire carrier. I think since we last saw each other I've done a fair amount to the Toy though. We'll catch up in a week. Bring the Rum and I'll limorona with ya'. We will get Mikey on board

I'll be leaving after breakfast. There's the biggest swell so far this season I'll be missing until Sunday so I'd like to get back and try to get in the water. Sounds like you'll have plenty of time for a run in the a.m. though. They'll leave around 9.

Anyone have a handheld CB i can use for the weekend? Are you guys fans of Korean BBQ? like shortrib style? Q them up on the grill and that's some good eating, just making sure you all will eat it though haha.

Also is there a caravan from Carls Jr on Friday i think i missed that reply...

I got my EGR hooked up today, so no more blowing pennies from my headers. Still not sure if the whole family is coming, but we will be there Friday afternoon.

I am going to talk Kellie into making her famous 7 layer bean dip.

Swell huh, you surf? I really need to get in shape this summer and hop on a board with you or Mikey and learn. It's something I would like to learn and stick with.

Well I just started a new job today, which is really good  But it probably means that I wont be able to make it out this time. :( I'm still broke until payday, and it wouldnt be good to ask for my first weekend off. :lame:

Its such a bummer... :( I've never been able to make a Superstition run before and I was so sure I was gonna make this one. My brothers were all fired up to go too.
Its still possible that I might come out just for Saturday if I'm not working, but really thats not very likely. This run always looks like such a blast too.

Well, looks like I did have a bad u joint. My tcase output is a bit loose, but should be fine for a while. Sounds like 2009 is the year for a 4.7 case.

Well it looks as if there's no way that I'm gonna have enough miles on the Lexus rear end to go thrashin' it. I may have to bow out....or I may decide to come out in the 'Runner and spend Sat. night with you guys and then head home Sun. Unless anyone is planning on doing anything real mellow on Sun. that I could do with a 4Runner with no sliders and open diffs.

What is left that needs to be brought to this Fiesta/Korean BBQ? I was thinking of hitting up the avocado ranch today and what about tortillas? Corn or flour?

Oh, and does anyone have an extra snatch strap I can borrow for the inspection. I just remembered that I had to cut mine while up at Shaver Lake over xmas (long story), and I'm not sure if I'll have time to pick up another one. FWIW, they still work if you use a slip knot, but you will have to cut it to get that knot back out.

my cell is 805-867-5309

Thanks Mike, I may take you up on that strap. Vatozone only had one really weak strap, but a gazillion heavy duty straps with metal hooks. :shake: Mine will probably pass inspection, as it's hard to tell that the end is cut off while it's rolled up.
