Still enjoying being unemployed, well except for the being broke part and digging a credit hole. Although I did interview at a Toyota dealer that really wanted me, and I could have probably named my price, but they only had openings on 2nd shift (crazy dealer's open from 7:30am - midnight, though it is a also a Frod dealer). I also keep hearing from corporate, they want to get me in as a contract position through a temp agency due to the hiring head coutn freeze - which means to save money they are willing to pay more than it would cost to just hire me back :headscratch:. I'm going to hold off on a serious job push until I hear more from my previous employer (I'll give them a few more days)

We did get into a nice park, all tree's and foliage just on this side of middle of nowhere. We have our own fire ring and have been enjoying that.

Yesterday was crazy. Our dog was seriously hurting (could not even lay down) and had a tiny scrape on his chest which started to swell up. After he started getting disoriented and listless we took him to the local emergency vet where we found out he was running a 107 degree fever! We found the scrape Friday, but our dog was fine at teh time. In the morning he was still OK, but started to limp a bit. By noon it was getting bad. So he spent the night at the vet on an IV with cool fluids, triple antibiotics and a whole host of blood tests and his temp dropped to 103 (normal greyhound temp is 101-102). The vet still doesn't even know what is going on, but at least it's starting to look up. So that's been the main bit on my mind lately.

Take things in stride and definitely take care of the pooch. *Showing some true love and commitment there guys, I approve. Most are afraid, or unwilling to treat their pet as a member of the family, especially in times of a tight economy. Between the ground-fault shock up in Oregon and this, considering all things, I see you both care a lot, a reason enough to be proud to consider you a friend. :D

[prayers]

There is no other way, he is our kid. Today we transfered him out of the Emergency Vet and drove down to Philly to admit him to U of Penn Veterinary Emergency Hospital (one of the best in the country). The doctor said it is some kind of septic shock of unknown origin with pain in his abdomin and lower spine, swelling in his abdominal cavity and a fluctuating fever requiring several days in the ICU with many many tests (not cheap, but, again, there is no other way). At least before we left the hospital for our hotel room we got to visit and he seemed much more lucid and showed some recognition when we got nearby (the previous vet had used the terms "cooked" and "brain" too many times together when referencing the high fever)

Thank you much, however it was just too much for him. We still don't know what caused it, but yesterday the doctor called us in because he was having trouble breathing. The next step would have been to put him on a respirator, but even that would only have bought time and not helped him get better (his lungs were filling with fluid because his heart was getting too weak to deal with the IV fluids that he needed). He was only 8 1/2 yrs old, but he had a good life . . .

Thank you very much for the kind thoughts.

I was looking through all our pictures and was elated to find a video of him that I took when we were up in Oregon. Several months ago, I had my cousin (Nathan Marzen Pet Portraits (http://www.nathanmarzen.com)) do an oil paint portrait of him, based on about a dozen photos I sent, for Liz's birthday. We haven't even seen it yet, but I think next week sometime we may go down to hang out and get it (gotta get some Arrogant Bastard first though).

We got him an individual cremation, and I think we may fly out to spread his ashes in the Sequoia Nat'l Forest in the spring . . .

Keith, we'll hoist a beer in honor of him.
(*Yes, finally found a beer I like..so much for that game :) ) Tell Liz to try it out: Lambic Frambois

Yesss . . . there has been much beer hoisting of late, in keeping with good Irish wake tradition (though neither of us have any Irish in our blood). If you haven't tried it, you may want to hunt down Delirium Tremens. Another tasty libation, and one of the few beer mixes that I like, is Black Velvet -> Guiness Stout and Champagne :drink:
