I know that they're doing a coop but to be it a Scion Tc is definitely news for me. I was under the impression that it'll be the bring back of the celica series. Would be interesting to see how this all unfolds.

This is cool! I told my friend a couple days ago how I wished the current Tc was rear wheel drive. He said it will never happen....

One of the FJ Cruiser Trail Team guys told me that Tc actually stood for Toyota Celica. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but it does make sense. :headscratch:

meh . . . living back in snow country again I want an AWD that isn't a Subie, EVO or mini-suv. Still nice though that they'll finally have another sporty RWD

And when you thought it would be a great vehicle for the future....

The sporty compact car Subaru and Toyota were developing together has been put on hold because of the worldwide economic slowdown, both companies confirm.

The program had been developing a pair of sporty small cars for sale by both automakers in 2011. The companies' other high-profile collaboration, the assembly of Toyota Camrys in Subaru's Lafayette, Ind., plant, remains intact.

Toyota took a small stake in Subaru when GM ended its relationship with the all-wheel drive specialist in 2005.

The 2+2 compact sporty car had been slated to use a version of the Subaru Impreza's platform, horizontally opposed boxer engine and transmission. It reportedly modified Subaru's all-wheel drive drivetrain to a rear-drive setup and moved the engine slightly rearward in the chassis to improve weight distribution.

The car would have filled one of the few obvious gaps in Toyota's lineup, a small and affordable sporty car.

It would also have given Subaru a performance model priced below the $24,995 all-wheel drive Impreza WRX.

The Toyota and Subaru models reportedly had different exterior designs.

Well bummer. At least it isn't completely canceled. This car may be what Toyota needs to help increase sales. Throw in a factory turbo motor, and it could be a hot seller.

Toyota needs to bring back the turbo MR2 and turbo I6 Supra too. :D

Totoya needs to realie they need a fast, sporty and decently priced car to compete imho. Mitsu has the evo, subie the wrx/sti, audi has theres and so forth.

They need RWD, sporty, V8 or inline4/6 turbo/s/c of some sort. People will buy it, its a given.

all i know is i want one...

sad to hear about what was basically the next gen tC. hopefully toyota will realize, and soon, that it needs that car more than anything right now. i cant recall a lineup of vehicles more boring than toyota's current offerings.

Well shoot, nissan/infinity has the g35, lecus has the is250/350 had the is300, etc, etc.

We want RWD, stick shift cars. Notice that swhat the kids want and kids always buy the car, shoot adults buy them too.

Im sick of this fwd crap, why they keep trying to do fwd ill never know. Maybe perhaps easier to design and figure them out-I dunno.

I've been waiting since 1998 for Toyota to bring something exciting back to the lineup. I've been wanting something rear drive. Something with an inline-6. I've given up waiting for Toyota, my next car will be a 1-year old BMW 3-series. New ones are too expensive and the depreciation is so bad I can afford a slightly used one. And I don't have to wait, they're already RWD/Inline-6s. Because I work on my own cars, I am willing to give up some level of reliability to have something I enjoy driving.

Dont laugh but in the late 60's my grandparents had one of those and my grandfather built my mom and her sisters a really nice go kart-they fit the entire thing in the back without putting the seat down and it wasnt small either!

I need to take a pic of the one down the street. I'm not sure if it runs or if he's saving it for a project, but it has some of those cool windows that are right where the roof and side meet. Thing's as long as his driveway.

You guys are funny. I think everyone here knows that if I had infinite money, I would own three cars. 1) my 4Runner, 2) a fast & fun car and 3) a massive 1970s beater car for jumpin' and hittin' stuff. That said, I am still disappointed we will never see the Subaru/Toyota Scion...both manufacturers make awesome stuff, so this no doubt would have been a very desireable car. Maybe not as desireable as the Cadillac Mike posted, but close.

Several years ago, I saw one of those huge old Oldsmobile station wagons pulling a massive class A tag axle motor home. They used one of those tow dollies that have their own wheels and actually hoists up the front of the towed vehicle. The front wheels of the motor home were off the ground. Wish I had a camera with me, cause it sure was funny. :hillbill:

Sean, I like those cars!

ok back to the topic of the "toyobaru", inside line is reporting that the joint venture is still on.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=143008

TOKYO — If you've recently read a story or two about the delay, or even the demise, of the compact sport coupe that Toyota and Subaru are jointly working on, don't believe it. That's the message from knowledgeable PR sources in Japan, who tell Inside Line that this intriguing sports car program is still very much on track.

so like so many apple rumors, i will sit and wait patiently, and not believe a word of anything until i see/dont see one on the show room floor.

You mean like one of these (http://autos.yahoo.com/2008_lexus_is_250_6_speed_sequential_with_all_whee l_drive/)?

:D Do you guys forget there's already Toyota's out there that are RWD or AWD post Supra/Celica? ;)
http://l.yimg.com/dv/aic/lexus_is_250_6_speed_sequential_with_all_wheel_dri ve_2008?x=440&n=1&q=90&sig=gFbsxCIZMvrKjVPqccYjtA--

There's also the Venza that is available AWD w/ a 3.5 V-6...not sure if a S/C or mod's are in the works yet (AUTO w/ C/V's)..and I missed the test drive this week, but will see what they're like soon enough. :D My friend says it has all the fixes I wish the Matrix had.

3.5-liter double overhead cam (DOHC) 24-valve dual independent VVT-i V6; 268 hp @ 6200 rpm, 246 lb.-ft. @ 4700 rpm
*Not that it needs a S/C, the power to weight, even with the AWD should be really nice, more on that later. ;)

Yeah, the IS is a nice car, but only has like 205hp on the 6spd manual (not sequential) versions. If Lexus would put a true manual behind the 3.5 motor, then we're cooking. Of course there is the IS-F too, but even that doesn't have a real manual tranny.

I'd like to see a rwd, 6spd manual coupe from Toyota that is below 25 grand. Turbo would be nice too. :D

Obi..

Read my above post w/ the Venza edit..the factory 3.5l is 268hp, weighing in around the same weight as a well equipped 2nd gen 4Runner..do the math. :)

That's awesome! Those uz engines are probably the best sounding engine I've ever heard. My brother has an IS300, and it's a nice ride. I think Toyota should have put a 2jzgte motor in those, making it sorta like an early IS-F.

I think this subaru/toyota deal coming out is exactly what Toyota neads right now. It could become the next fad in the "tuner" world. Sorta like the Civic was back 8 years ago or so.

Not sure if this is totally going off topic, but I think Lance will be OK with this going up, since it's coming from me..(sorry if it is totally O/T..my bad.)

I've seen, and ridden in it (IS430), Haa-Haa!! and..I also just went through a deal and drove the Venza V-6 AWD... :D

The story line behind the Lexus/Venza: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/04/automobiles/autoreviews/04AUTO.html?em

I'll save my comments for a possible thing later, but let's just let me get away with saying "Fun" is an understatement, and that is coming from my jaded and judgemental attitude. :D Go try one out!! (Lance, look at the IP visits from the last hour and a half...notice any new ones..where was I? Site Pimpin Baby!! :D ) Me playing around with a $40k toy, I had to mention UY! ;)

Oh, and as long as we're blabbing about cars, here...visit and check all of this stuff out, wait about a minute and a half, the "Driver Seeker" robot video's hilarious!: http://www.toyota.com/pitpass/

maybe we will get a celica afterall:

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/report-toyota-reviving-celica-name-for-joint-subaru-rwd-car/

The last report about the on again/off again sports car being developed jointly by Toyota and Subaru was that it's on again. Today comes word from L'Automobile in France that not only is the rear-wheel-drive Toyubaru going to happen, but it will arrive bearing the Celica name sometime in 2010. If Wikipedia is to be believed, this would be the eighth generation of the Celica, which traces its roots all the way back to 1970 when it debuted in Japan as an inexpensive rear-wheel-drive sports car. Through the years it switched to front- and all-wheel drive, with the final seventh generation Celica sold from 2000 - 2005 being a strict cart puller. L'Automobile claims that Thierry Dombreval, Toyota's VP of sales and marketing in France, spilled the beans on reviving the Celica name, so we won't consider this news solid until a second source comes forward or Toyota officially confirms it, neither of which is likely to happen. So for now all you Celica fans should just sit tight and light a few candles for your cause.

Nice! Looks good.

Toyota is going to have to offer more than 146bhp to really make it competitive. I'm sure there will be a lot of aftermarket turbo kits though...

Ugly rims. :D

id be willing to bet the Scion version will only be producing the 146 bhp, and the subaru version will probably have a turbo-d version with 235ish hp...
