Long story short...Paypal can put holds on transactions now and doesn't release the money for items sold on ebay until the buyer receives the item?
From PAYPAL:
PayPal and eBay are working together to make payments for eBay items even safer. Because we want both buyers and sellers to feel confident about sending and receiving payments through PayPal, we may temporarily hold payments for items sold on eBay.
Make sure to ship the item right away, so you'll have access to the funds sooner. We'll release the hold in 21 days unless you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold. We may release the hold earlier if either of the following occurs:
* The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
* We confirm that the item was delivered.* We can confirm delivery if you ship the item with USPS, FedEx, or UPS and either use PayPal shipping labels or upload tracking information from the transaction details page. This applies to transactions within the United States.
Really?

I personally think this is fine, what's the problem with not actually having the money until the item is successfully delivered to the buyer?

There are lowlifes out there.
I tried to buy a Wii off some guy on Ebay, sent the money PayPal and everything <seemed> like it would go O.K. until I get an email from the guy saying he was refunding the money because he listed the wrong item. Problem is, he never refunded the money. I filed a dispute with PayPal the day he emailed me saying he was refunding the money (but I had received no such statement from PayPal), and they were only able to give back $200 of the $240 I spent. So the guy made a quick $40 by being a sleazebag douche.
Eff them all :chair:

That seems a little rediculous. I don't always leave feedback which would mean the seller doesn't get his money. I don't think I'd really take the time to enter shipping information, etc.

I could get a check in hand and cash it before that crap. I am about to go snail mail, 1 day extra, is still better than when I grew up. Besides a credit card works at most crap on e-bay, except the rare, personal seller.

That's very true, it has the advantage of having more local deals available. You can play it safe and pick up.

This amounts to nothing more than Paypal acting as an escrow company. It's a bummer to have to wait for funds, but it's the price we all pay for tolerating scum. I wonder if Paypal will make interest on the pool of cash....

This is why Ebay will go to the crapper, or further into it. Local classifieds are much more productive and you don't pay shipping. We have a local FREE classifieds that you can sell anything in.
Screw Ebay.

You can bet they are, or better yet: once they find out that they have 2 weeks of Ebay purchases in their account they think it is a good idea to invest the money on the stock market........

Maybe so, but you get to see the scum in person and stomp them if they screw you over.
