So i got a bit of cash for my birthday, and really had a hard time deciding between a couple items: a springfield XD9, a die for my soon-to-be tubing bender, or what i finally decided on. ill let the pictures do the talking. basically i wanted something sorta practical, but something that every time i looked at it, it would make me smile. so far its working... haha.

heres the final product:

and the giant holes i drilled in my fender to get there:

install went flawlessly. VERY VERY good product, and highly recommended!

thanks to Sierra Expeditions and their 10% off over the holiday weekend! love you guys, there will be a sticker on my rig come thursday.

wednesday im going!!! no water though. actually this was a pretty impractical purchase. hopefully the snorkel will cut down on the dust that gets sucked into my trueflow. now i dont have to drive so slow through water crossings though! no more of that walking pace through the one at mojave!

That's pretty much the reason I want to get one, is to cut down on the dust.

Congrats you luck SOB!
Dude so jealous, see here I would need it for the water :-)
Also doesn't the ARB act as a sort of forced induction makign the air shoot down the pipe from the angle of the head?

 schweeet . . . how many times did you double check the template before cutting? I'm still (kinda) working on a homemade one, but it just keeps getting pushed to the back a bit

i double checked that template like... twice! haha. my biggest concern was the big hole, there isnt alot of room between it and the edge of the snorkel body, so if i was off by even 1/8th, the hole in the fender would show.

I wanted a snorkel a while back, but my wife kept calling it a "dork-el" (on purpose of course) every time I mentioned it. She called it that so much so, she convinced me not to buy one!

Haha... Dorkel! That's funny. I dont see nearly enough water to ever think of getting one of those. I'd be concerned about it getting torn off on a rock or tree branches myself.

Sean, does your runner have an electric radiator fan or just the normal belt and clutch?

normal belt and clutch. it just isnt worth me swapping to an electric fan. i really dont plan to see that much water, more of a dust thing as i mentioned before. and yea... its impractical! haha.

Yea I have a flex-a-lite mechanical fan in my truck. If the water ever came up high enough for me to worry about hydro locking, that fan would have propelled itself right through the radiator long before water ever hit the intake.

Just remember that before you try to ford anything that you would not have done before the snorkel. The fan is just waiting its chance to eat the radiator. :wrenchin:

The fan/radiator will be fine as long as you ease into the deeper water.

Either way, I want one for the dust advantages. :flipoff:

I think that a radiator fan spinning at 1000rpm minimum will drive itself into the radiator as soon as it contacts water. Isn't that one of the big reasons that people get electric fans, so they can shut them off when they hit deep water.

Either way, I can see how it would cut down on dust ingestion, especially on fast running where the dust is concentrated lower. Heck I need one of those for my cab. :hillbill:

Not really, it's the sudden rush into deep water with the fan spinning really really fast that will cause it to pull into the radiator. Easing in will also allow the fan clutch to work better for you.

Just look at vids of deep watercrossings and the majority have mechanical/fan clutch.

Your rig sure has come a long way there Sean. Looking good. The only thing its missing now is a trip to superstition 11 with us SD boys, and some good body damage to show that you really wheel it.

Oh yea Slo. How could I forget, key word in your post... Fan clutch... Almost forgot about those things. :shake: Haven't used one in so long. I have a direct drive flex fan. I can see a clutch allowing the fan to slow down if the water level comes up high enough.
